Ever since the Vietnam War, and the debate still continues....
ak
Which is better, a ballpein hammer or a claw hammer?
Nobody heard of '19FortyFive' til you showed up.
Gee, I’ve heard heard that one before...
Kind of like comparing a Jeep Rubicon to a Chevy Corvette. They both have their relative strengths and shortcomings. While they both have the overarching purpose of getting from Point A to Point B, there are a lot of factors that will determine which will achieve that purpose better.
When I was in the Marine Corps, late ‘80s, early ‘90s, nobody ever used the term ‘assault rifle’. I used the M16A2 Service Rifle.
Neither, I can’t afford a transferrable select fire rifle.
Not again....
Different weapons with different objectives
AK = killed
AR = wounded
The theory is that the enemy will be bogged down caring for the wounded.
The one that you won’t have to pay a $200 tax on, or have confiscated, or turn you into an instafelon.
At this point its the one you can get ammo for...and from what I’ve been hearing the ak wins.
AR has better long-range accuracy.
AK is easier to maintain (which may become important if you can’t go to a licensed gunsmith for repairs because your gun is on the banned list) and generally more reliable.
AK appears to have better stopping power.
In ain’t the rifle that makes the difference. It’s the man behind it.
Plenty of GIs threw down their M-16 when they were able to get hold of an AK-47. I never heard of any enemy combatant throwing down his AK-47 when he was able to secure an M-16.
Currently it comes down to which one I have a reliable source of ammunition for. For the AK I can cast my own bullets out of still easily obtainable and if using a bullet trap at the range - reusable lead. I heat treat the bullets and make my own gas checks. The brass can be re-used multiple times, and fortunately we have enough powder and primers to last for a long time.
ARs shoot at a higher velocity and require factory made copper clad bullets, they are currently expensive and hard to find. The entire 7.62x39mm cartridge can be assembled for a quarter of the price of just the projectile alone for the 5.56x45mm. I am a cheap skate and did not stock up on these projectiles. So at this time there is no debate which one I will be taking to the range.
Another Dead Horse Being Beaten Alert!
AK47 by far.
Try to bang out replacement part for a M16 With an old tin can and some rocks. There are videos of people doing just that.
They are so reliable and hearty you can have an entire army of children in Sierra Leone. So easy to use and maintain even a child can use it with little training.
Assuming the same skill level of the shooter, which one is most likely to hit its target consistently?
