Just when you think that wokeness could not become more absurd, it surpasses itself. A leaked document from the Edinburgh Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review Group recently revealed that the grave of Adam Smith—author of one of the most important books written in history, the Wealth of Nations (1776)—has been listed as a potential site to investigate on the basis that Smith allegedly accepted slavery as “inevitable.”

Slavery was so universal in human history, going back to the Egyptians and earlier, that to think at some point someone in your ancestry DIDN’T own slaves is likely an exercise in futility. This isn’t about slavery, it’s about erasing history that’s inconvenient and mostly white, because western European thought, philosophy, and labor are the reason we are even having these conversations in the first place.
If our Founders hadn’t struck out at the king, we’d all be sipping tea and the idea of free speech would be but a footnote in history. (Even though it’s becoming obvious that’s where we’re headed anyway.)
What will happen to 12% of the population when all references to the past have been removed? The “culture” that produces “art” like the vile cr@p spewed on the Grammy awards will not be tolerated.
Who are the woke? We should dig into all of their backgrounds and come for them. Expose them and hoist them on their own petard.
“The Woke” can go pound used covid masks up their azzes...sideways. People have had more than enough of their stupid BS.
It will never stop until we make it stop. And I have a feeling there aren’t enough of us to make them stop.
Those people have a need to constantly attack. And with each victory, they become bolder, and hungrier. And that is how you get totalitarian states that do unthinkable things to out groups.
When there were enough of us to make it stop, our guys decided not to get involved; to stay hands off, and let it be “someone else’s problem to deal with.”
They chose to sit on the sidelines and pat themselves on the back as being a “silent majority” as if this is some major accomplishment.
You said nothing; you were silent. What did you accomplish?
Back to the original post, the irony about the attacks on Adam Smith is that Smith was regarded as an abolitionist in his day. But there aren’t enough conservatives willing to be citizen historians to make noise about it.
History did not begin when we were born, or even when our grandparents were born. When my grandparents were born, slavery had only been ended for ~35 years in the US and for ~12 years in Brazil.
Slavery is the norm.
Always has been.
Always will be.
The fact that the West has mostly suppressed it for the last 150 years is the anomaly and a measure of the West’s achievements.
Agreed on all points.
