Functioning ‘mechanical gears’ discovered in nature for the first time
To the best of our knowledge, the mechanical gear (equally sized teeth cut into two rotating surfaces to lock them together as they turn) was invented by Greek mechanics in Alexandria around 300 B.C.E. Functioning ‘mechanical gears’ discovered in nature for the first time
Since then, the simple concept has become a foundation of modern technology, allowing a wide range of machinery and vehicles, including automobiles and bicycles.
However, As it turns out, a three-millimeter-long hopping insect known as Issus coleopterous beat us to this invention.
Malcolm Burrows and Gregory Sutton, a pair of biologists from the University of Cambridge in the U.K., discovered that juveniles of the species have an intricate gearing system that locks their back legs together, allowing both appendages to rotate at the exact same instant, causing the tiny creatures to jump forward.
The finding, which was published today in Science, is believed to be the first functional gearing system ever discovered in nature. Issus coleoptratus
Insects from the Issus genus, which are commonly called “planthoppers,” are found throughout Europe and North Africa.
PINGGG!.....................
Weird.
10 forward gears and a Georgia overdrive.
How anyone can look at that fine engineering and think that hey just “evolved” has been hornswoggled by Satan.
It is kind of odd that they are talking about this like it was just discovered. I remember reading about it years ago. Here is an article from 2013 discussing it - and it even has the same picture (albeit uncropped) that appears in this new article.

This discovery was made in 2013. The Archaeology World site is just clickbait trash.

Clickbait trash on the Interwebz? Say it ain’t so!..................
Funny, I was expecting molecular level gears. Functional proteins can be considered as tiny mechanical devices; muscle movement occurs because of the actions of countless tiny engines (called actin) ratcheting their way along countless tiny fibers (called myosin).
At the molecular level, all living things are nothing but masses of molecule sized machines.
Please avoid posting from this site - its as fake as articles from the Smithsonian.

Prokaryotic flagella run in a rotary movement, while eukaryotic flagella run in a bending movement. The prokaryotic flagella use a rotary motor, and the eukaryotic flagella use a complex sliding filament system. Eukaryotic flagella are ATP-driven, while prokaryotic flagella can be ATP-driven (Archaea) or proton-driven (Bacteria).
Here is a close-up of the fully rotating flagellum (it even has ring seals and stators) :
yep. And they are more complex than anything that any man has even conceived of designing. Every new discovery shows a new level of extreme complexity. There are machines that spontaneously build themselves to perform a function then break back down into atoms so they can move to a different area of the cell to reassemble themselves in order to perform the same function. They continuously do this whenever and wherever needed. The chances of inert elements combining themselves into amino acids and then randomly combining in order to create a single folding protein is statistically zero.
Stopped reading there.

But let me know when they find Disraeli Gears. You know, like on bicycles.
The Cream of the Crop!..................
It was reported months ago. Even so, very, very, cool!
On top of that, Redneck, the motor works via electromagnetics, EXACTLY the same as a the motors we’re used to.
Friggen BRILLIANT invention, by Him.
ATP synthasr appears to work as a machine..also flagella in certain cerain microscopic organisms behave as a motor.
