The brutality, the sex and the actual filth (as in people were often dirty grungy and no doubt, smelly) was the point. The TOTAL lack of respect for human life was how it often was in medieval Europe- at least for the peasants. He pulls no punches when showing that.

When I do happen upon one, I’m taken aback by the sturm & drang, sadism, gratuitous sex, wokism, etc.

Got HBO via Amazon Prime two years ago just to watch the last season and I just finished the last two episodes last week (I procrastinate a little). Quite a let down but they did leave at least 5 story lines open for sequels if they choose to do so.

Season 8 came across as rushed - especially the character arcs. It needed a couple more episodes, if not another season, for a proper conclusion.

I felt a little cheated by the lack of attention to the Bran character throughout the series, considering how series ended.

Funny you should post this, as I am watching the series for the 5th time. I agree about the gratuitous sex. This time I got the 4K HDR10/Dolby Vision which was recently released and I am very pleased it was released. The production of the series was an enormous undertaking and put money into a lot of peoples pockets. I will be interested to see if the prequel even comes close. So many times prequels and sequels fall way short of the mark.

Don’t skip breaking bad. It’s not “great dramatic television” on par with The Sopranos or The Wire, but it’s a lot of fun to watch and is very well done. Some violence and stuff considering the topic. But a lot of it done with humor.

Better Call Saul was sort of a disappointment to me. I understand spin-offs have to take a life of their own but it really moves a lot slower. I think Walter’s character will make some kind of cameo in this upcoming season but obviously have no idea how or in what capacity. I think this next season is its last. Bob Odenkirk has his own production deal now.

Was a big big fan of Mr. Show with Bob and David on HBO back in the 1990s. A little profane but they were extremely talented comedians. Really funny sketch comedy show. Bob went on to Breaking Bad, while David had a recurring role in Arrested Development which was an incredibly funny show, narrated by Ron Howard.

I hadn't watched any of it either. Then I was at a friend's house and saw the last two episodes the day of the finale. I soon became aware of all the Season 8 hate, so I binge watched the entire series from the start. It was fantastic for a long time.

GOT went off ther rails in S07E02. That's when the Imp convinced Daenerys to not directly take the throne, but to sail her fleet all the way around the continent to attack Casterly Rock. Along the way, she lost a staunch ally from Dorne.

Then came the snipe, I mean wight hunt. Everything went to shit after that. The Battle at Winterfell was filmed poorly and display laughable tactics as the show runners threw away a major story arc. Later Daenerys goes bat shit crazy after the capital city surrenders and burns the crap out of everything. She was pissed, or insane, or something. Another great story arc gets offed by bricks. In the context of the first six seasons, the finale was a funeral after a train wreck with nobody staying around for the reception.

The show runners had a gig coming to do Star Wars. They had four seasons (forty episodes) of material they threw away on 12 episodes. Character arcs crashed like dying dragons.

The only good thing that came of the end was the show runners got their gig cancelled.
