On Friday, the White House announced that it would stop approving new permits to import Russian-made firearms as well as ammunition. The ban, which is part of a new round of sanctions against the Russian government over its alleged poisoning and imprisoning of dissident Aleksey Navalny, is set to go into effect on Sept. 7, 2021.

If you are only buying ammunition now, it means
you haven’t been paying attention...

If you are only buying ammunition now, it means you haven’t been paying attention... 1992-2008 was the time to buy. Buy until it hurt.

I never thought of ammo as my retirement…until now.

A lot of the people buying now didn’t own guns then.

Well, I guess the days of 20 rounds of Bear or Wolf 7.62X39 for $5 are over...

No problem for Russia. They’ll make up the difference in the newly created Afghanistan market. I hear they have some 300,000 plus M4/M16 rifles hitting the streets.

I miss the days of Wolf at $2 a box

Save your ammo. You’ll get plenty of practice when the shooting starts.

I miss the days of Wolf at $2 a box. I forget what I used to pay for Chicom 7.62x39 back in the early 1990s, but it wasn't much, and it worked just fine in the inexpensive SKS rifles that were available at the time. I did learn one thing, though: only buy communist-produced ammo in calibers used by their own militaries. I've seen some horrendous quality control issues with both brass- and steel-cased .223 put out by the same factories...

I’ve seen boxes of 9x18 Makarov hollow points that showed great variability in the size of the cavity. Some so big that they hung up in the magazine.

It is hard for the price to go higher when there isn’t any on the store shelves to buy.

Sure. Not sure if Barnaul makes any hollow points for military use. Police, maybe. Just looking in the box I’d pick out the big ones to shoot in practice.
