What does Our Lady of Fátima have to do with Russia and Ukraine?
America Magazine ^ | March 15th, 2022 | Jane Sloan Peters

It turns out moving your thumb along a decade of rosary beads feels a lot like scrolling through a news feed. I have discovered this as I reach more and more for my rosary these days, amid the flood of horrific images and stories of Russia’s onslaught in Ukraine—most recently, the bombing of a maternity hospital in Mariupol.

Each day’s news brings fresh feelings of incredulity, anger and helplessness that gnaw at me long after I set down my phone and tend to my two young sons. I have found that praying the rosary gives somewhere for my anxiety to spill over. Even if I can’t focus on the mysteries, the act of running my thumb and forefinger from one cool, jade bead to another channels my ruminations. The repetitive prayers have sometimes felt like mindless chatter—but amid current events, the simplicity and predictability of the rosary is soothing.

On March 15, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during a penance service.

I have also been reminded these days of the rosary’s connection to Russia. On March 15, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis, heeding a request from the Catholic bishops of Ukraine, will consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary during a penance service on Friday, March 25. Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, the papal almoner, will carry out the same act in Fátima on the same day.

Our Lady of Fatima said Russia would be converted if her requests were heeded but she made no mention of the future of the United States.

Aren’t some Russians already Christians? The churhes are open and operating, so obviously Stalin wasn’t able to wipe all of them out.

Glen Beck (!) just said on his radio show that Pope Francis will probably reveal the last ‘secret’ of Our Lady’ when he dedicates the statue in Ukraine on March 25th. The reason I made this posting.

What does Our Lady of Fátima have to do with Russia and Ukraine?

Nothing. Mary cannot save Russia. Only Jesus Christ can!

Catholicism.... The acolytes of Fatima would almost certainly regard Orthodox Christianity as heretical. First for being schismatic by claiming to be the ‘true church’ and rebellious for denying the authority of the ‘seat of Peter.’

Last I checked a huge portion of the Russian and Ukrainian population are still nominally Christian and so don’t have to convert. Abortion rate is much higher in Russia and Ukraine than US though:

Top 10 Countries with the Highest Abortion Rates (annually per 1000 women) - United Nations Russia - 53.7 (2004) Vietnam - 35.2 (2000) Kazakhstan - 35.0 (2004) Estonia - 33.3 (2005) Belarus - 31.7 (2004) Romania - 27.8 (2004) Ukraine - 27.5 (2004) Latvia - 27.3 (2004) Cuba - 24.8 (2004) China - 24.0 (1998)

Don’t deny it, you’ve been reading the Bible again instead of following the traditions of men.

It is said that Russia was never consecrated while it was communist, but now that it is making some steps toward moving back to Orthodoxy the Vatican finally gets around to it.

Yet another case of strange behavior from the post conciliar Church

Top 10 Countries with the Highest Abortion Rates

Fascinating that the PRC comes in behind nominal Christian countries in that statistic?

Hmmmm. What do these ten nations all have in common? Every true conservative knows. Every leftist knows ... and denies. Leftism is an ideology/religion of death.

I’m good with this. Christ was schismatic by returning to Scripture instead of any man-made religion. There is no position in Scripture to appeal, to worship or place any hope or trust in besides Jesus Christ.

Matthew 28:18 - KJV
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

“All” means all.

The author does a disservice by not posting the context:

The Consecration of Russia as requested by Our Lady

Specific request

The three children Lucy, Francisco and Jacinta said that in the apparition on June 17, 1917, the Virgin said to them:

I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart. If people attend to my requests, Russia will be converted and the world will have peace.” They said that on July 13, 1917 the Virgin told them:

God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.

The [First World] war is going to end; if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father. To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart....

If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, and various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world.”

Go to the link for critical details. The key is it hasn't been done as instructed, always with some modification.

Catholics assume that the errors are Communisn, not Orthodoxy. Which one has been more effectively spread throughout the world.

We ask Mary to *pray for* things, such as the conversion of Russia.

Incidentally, Mary’s request was that the consecration be made *and* that people go to Mass on five first Saturdays.

And she requested that people pray the Rosart and repent of their sins...

The problem has not been the lack of consecration by the Pope, but the lack by the rank-and-file Catholics. The Blessed Virgin Mary had TWO conditions for the conversion of Russia: (1) the consecration of Russia by the Pope, and (2) the devotion of Catholics to first Saturdays’ worship.

The consecration doesn’t work by magic; blaming the use of “Russians” instead of “Russia” in the 1950s consecration by Pope Pius XII a belief in incantation. The consecration will work by the power of prayers of the Church Militant, defeating the forces of Satan with the power of Christ.
