I take them daily in large quantity...as I have since this Covid nonsense started. Seems to have kept me going strong and bug free.

The USA has a big vitamin D deficiency problem. Most people are not outdoors in the sun enough to get adequate vitamin D. The White House Covid task force could have at least encouraged people to take vitamin D supplements. Instead they told people to stay indoors.
Acksuhlllly, the whiter your skin, the MORE Vitamin D you produce for a given amount of sunlight...this is an adaptation. If you are not in a lot of sunlight, your skin looses melanin, which causes the light(er) appearance.
So for example people in the equator have dark(er) skin so that (1) the skin is protected and (2) Vitamin D production is regulated.
