Shirley Temple's 95th birthday has started in Australia about six hours ago.
She served as a diplomat for two years under President Ford, almost three years under the first President Bush and about one day under President Carter .......... She reported that she had met President Carter on his first day in the White House and told him that she was "interested in continuing in public service and that politics didn't matter - but it does, doesn't it?"
..............
Was that Carter's first mistake as President?
..............
As a little boy in Australia in the 60's she was my favourite star - my childhood sweetheart.
I believed she was my friend.
A few months ago on the anniversary of her death, I named her an Indigenous Woman Of The Anglosphere ....... someone whose charm and beauty served the English speaking world from early childhood through three careers: movies, family maker and diplomacy.
...............
We know that modern feminism and cancel culture makes motherhood and marriage much harder for all women.
................
Would a Shirley Temple film or diplomatic career have been possible now?
Was Macaulay Culkin the last child star?
Under Ford and Bush, Temple believed the U.N. did a lot of good.
................
That was a different world.

What is retrievable?

Another little girl seems to have come out differently - Margaret O'Brian AKA "Tootie". What a little sweetheart. She seemed to be having fun doing what she was doing as as a child and later as a grown up.
That girl made a lot of depressing movies.
The Bluebird has a strong pro-life message.
Probably why so many people have never heard of it, let alone seen it.
Unless she supported abortion and lgbt the Democrats would call her evil and silence her.
I’ve seen a number of Temple interviews. I never had the impression that she was bitter about her movie career, realistic yes but not bitter. It’s said her mother is the reason that she turned out so well.
She made about $4,000,000 when she was “of legal age” her mom had used all but $44,000.
A family member knew someone who knew her from a country club near her home in the Bay Area. Person said that the most shocking thing was what a heavy cigarette smoker she was. Hardly that unusual of a habit for a woman of her generation, but I guess everyone expected her to freeze in time as 10 year old
Well, I hope so. In her later years, she came across to me as kind of bitter and negative.
She was good in Bachelor and Bobbysoxer where she was a bit older (18 I think).
Wonder why she never really made it as an adult actress
As a little girl, my mother won a Shirley Temple look-alike contest.
She didn’t really try to make it as an adult actress.
At 22 she wanted something real and chose motherhood.
My Mom knew her from the Children’s Health Council in Menlo Park or Palo Alto. I don’t remember if she lived in Atherton or Woodside. Her married name was Black.
BITTER??? Are you DRUNK?
She was NEVER bitter! Don’t believe this crap.
You, a screech and a howl with no discernable reason or accountably, ask me if I’m drunk. That’s a good one.
If she were a Democsrat and still alive, Biden would appoint ehr as Secretary of the Navy because she sang a song about a ship.
“You remind me of a man.”
“What man?”
“The man with the power.”
“What power?”
“The power of hoodoo.”
“Hoodoo?”
“You do.”
“Do what?”
“Remind me of a man.”
etc.
I knew Shirley Temples interior decorator, he lived in my neighborhood. old French guy his last name was Lachasse
he had a weird car that was painted pastel colors (Edsel?) and he had rooms full of photo albums of famous people’s houses he had decorated.
I thought he was gay, but he did have a daughter I met a few times when she visited
Thank you for posting.
‘Sad a certain 1600 occupier didn’t have the flag lowered at her passing.
