Would they rather China develop the better AI?
Plus this story is missing so so so much.
1) Microsoft hired him after he got fired.
2) The employees of Open AI revolted and said they want him back
3) The board conceded and brought him back.
Deuce Couped?
Could someone translate all this for us non-geeks?
Who’s on first and what does it all mean?
“artificial general intelligence (AGI) is a hypothetical type of intelligent agent. If realized, an AGI could learn to accomplish any intellectual task that human beings or animals can perform”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_general_intelligence
Did I really say that?
No, Ron, our chatbot did.
“couped” is not a word. Correct me if I am wrong.
There is no way to keep AI from being monetized. The talent at OpenAI will bring their talents to Apple, nVidia, Google, IBM, Samsung, etc. and make piles of money.
People will happily pay money for an AI that does things that they want. Some of those things would not exist with venture capital aimed at making a profit. It took Linux as being largely free decades to get traction, and even then after there were alternate ways for IBM (owns Red Hat), Novell and others (commercial app and infrastructure web/security companies) to make money off of it.
There is no such possible thing in tech as “go slow.”
It just doesn’t work that way in the real world.
Whatever is possible will be upon us as soon as possible.
Get used to it.
Or did the AI coup Microsoft, and wants you to think it’s the other way around?
Embrace, extend, extinguish.
p
the article you posted is complete bullshit ...
here’s what REALLY happened and why:
sam altman is NOT a nobody ... he has been the driving force behind openAI and openAI global and their development of the GPT AI engines ...
an insane female majority of the openAI board, guided by their insane Effective Altruism “principles” tried to stop the development of GPT AI and/or force censorship “guardrails” on it by abruptly firing altman with no warning, and no consultation with their primary investors and funders ...
this lead to the other major founders quitting, and 700 of the 770 employees submitted a petition to the board that they would quit and join altman in a new company if the board didn’t hire back altman and then resign ... microsoft said they’d be happy to fund the new company ... the board did in fact hire back altman and then fire themselves, with a new nine-member board to be appointed ...
Hmm...
No wonder actors are worried. No need for extra’s to start with. All the background acors will be fake as the scenery and the main actor can be dead and be brought back to make movies as their digital self.
An agency created an AI model who earns up to $11,000 a month because it was tired of influencers ‘who have egos’
