I saw a desert tortoise who was walking along a dirt road in Kingman, AZ. I stopped the car to take his picture and he stopped and posed and then moved on.
I had a cat who lived to be 19.
The neighbor behind us has a very old tortoise. She’s had him at least 20 years. Two or three times he has somehow escaped her yard and come to our yard. We call her and she retrieves her tortoise. How that I think about it, i’s been a long while since he last snuck over to our place.
When I was five I found a turtle. I kept him in a shallow tray in the garage. One day I moved the tray to the hood of my mom’s car. I forgot to put it back.
She went somewhere and didn’t see it till she hit the brakes and the turtle and tray shot off the hood.
End of turtle.
Awesome!!
That would be a messed up response to post #5 XD
A reptile is not a pet
My sister, who’s in her 80s, stopped to help a turtle cross a busy road. She couldn’t catch it, too fast.
How do you feel about birds 🐦, frogs 🐸, fish 🐠 or spiders 🕷?
Look up Jonathan the giant tortoise. He is about to celebrate his 191st birthday.
Nov. 30 (UPI) -- The world's oldest living land animal, a tortoise named Jonathan, celebrated his 191st birthday on the island of St. Helena -- but he might be much older.
Jonathan's exact age is unknown, but he was at least 50 years old when he was brought to the island from the Seychelles in 1882, making him at least 191 years old, and possibly much older, Guinness World Records announced.
Jonathan is the world's oldest living land animal, as well as the oldest turtle/chelonian in recorded history. He is a Seychelles giant tortoise, a species with an average lifespan of about 150 years.
"In spite of losing his sense of smell and being virtually blind from cataracts, his appetite remains keen," veterinarian Joe Hollins told GWR. "He is still being hand-fed once a week with a fortifying helping of fruit and vegetables by a small, dedicated team. This not only supplements his calories but provides those essential drivers of his metabolism: vitamins, minerals, and trace elements."
Jonathan has lived at Plantation House, the residence of St. Helena's governor, for 141 years.
I just saw a story of an 80 year old woman who has had her pet turtle since she was 10. She bought it as a mail order deal.
