I sure hope there are better alternatives. Right now we are seeing a replay of WW1, just on a smaller scale. Christians killing Christians in large numbers over relatively minor things.
Perhaps the best hope is that Trump wins in November, and then brokers a peace everyone can accept.

The interpretation should be, WWIII would start if Russia invaded Poland or Romania, which Putin has zero interest in even trying.
All he wants (and can do) is to secure the eastern provinces and make sure the rest of Ukraine remains neutral. Anything beyond that is just bluster.
