Chinese New Year 2024 will fall on Saturday, February 10, 2024. This means the Year of the Rabbit ends on February 9, and the Year of the Dragon (which coincidentally, this author is a member of) starts on February 10 according to the Chinese zodiac. Unlike the Gregorian calendar where New Year’s Day consistently occurs on January 1, the date of Chinese New Year changes every year, but it always falls between January 21 and February 20, usually the second new moon after the winter solstice. And unlike the usual one-day holiday for New Year’s (or two days for New Year’s Eve and Day), China’s public holiday for Lunar New Year is eight days, from Chinese New Year’s Eve to the sixth day of the lunar calendar new year.

Not same but similar (the article mentions the generation of Babel moving eastward....) but similarly, when Genesis mentions:

Abraham gave everything he owned to his son Isaac. But before he died, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them off to a land in the east, away from Isaac.
The Jewish commentaries say the “gifts” were “impure names of G-d,” ie, the power of “magics” etc... manipulating physicality (but in an improper way.) So something akin to fighting powers/martial arts/mysticism.
That really doesn’t seem to fit with what is known about Abraham. It makes no sense that he’d have anything to do with impure names of God nor be able to confer mystical powers on others.
There is no reason to believe that “dragons” did not exist.

I am not so sure about the breathing flames, but perhaps their breath was really bad.
Science never quite arrives at the truth about the natural world, but over time it tends to get closer to it.
The most cautious investigators of old bones who did not speculate about the critters breathing fire were likely not as popularly attended to as those that did. There was "junk science" in old times just as there is now.

While we’re on “what is known about Abraham,” does your church believe he smashed his father’s idols? Or that Nimrod threw him into a fire (which he miraculously survived,) or any of what the Jewish Midrash (commentary) calls the ten trials of Abraham? (Culminating in the binding of Isaac.)
When I lived in LA and later in SF, I really enjoyed the Chinese New Year parades. And the little red envelopes with a $2 bill inside for good luck.
And today on God’s calendar was His Day of the New Moon,the 1st day of His 6th month in the days of Noah, or His 12th month, in the days of Moses.
And the answer to why the New Moon Day was taught to be different than His 6 Work Days and Sabbath has the answer in Genesis 1:1, John 1:1 and John 1:14.
I agree. I’m not even sure some flying reptiles did not coexist with man. Herodotus has a lot of interesting and specific information about dragons that made me think it is possible.
We mock ancient sources at some risk. They said the same thing about Troy and the Mycenian cities and king and wars. They found Troy miles inland since the sea has gone down, and know from archaeology they had advanced civilizations without a written language, etc. They managed to dig tunnels through a mountain to meet in the middle in those times.
Interesting things you would likely never find today were lying on the surface in prehistory, such as native gold and metals, meteorites, etc, when the human population was very low and always had been.
Maybe the flood happened, but it was an ice age, viewed through oral history passed down through millenia of people who couldn’t conceive of devastation from ice, and probably the meanings of the words in their stories shift to weather they had experienced. Perhaps the Ark people sailed to safety to a tropical area. Or maybe the flood they escaped and passed down orally was when the sea rose as the ice age ended.

I’m not a dragon or dinosaur “fan” or a young earther geology sceotic btw. I just think if Herodotus says it there is some “grain of” truth.
Never even heard of those myths surrounding Abraham. Why would anyone even bother to learn such obscure stuff like that? Why would the church bother to consider it or teach it? What practical use is it to anyone?

You know, nobody is interested in your weird obsession with calendars.
I honestly don’t know what point you are trying to prove with it because even YOU have to live your life around the current calendar we use to manage in this world.
If you are going to do banking, healthcare, shopping, pay bills, or any of a plethora of everyday life doings, you have to use it. And you are NEVER going to change the whole world to your obsession with something as irrelevant to most people as the calendar they use.
You are not more spiritual, or right, or holier than anyone else because of your touting it. There are far bigger moral issues in this world to address than dates and they are not going to be fixed with changing what you call days or what year it is.
And since neither God nor Jesus made an issue of it, I doubt it’s going to earn us more favor with God if we use the one YOU think we should instead of a different one. Because the long and short of it is, you can’t prove that He approves of YOUR version of it either.
The ancients are usually mocked, ridiculed, or looked down on as intellectually inferior and uncouth by today's self-appointed elitists, but seriously, they did feats of engineering we can only marvel at. The Romans made a form of concrete we can't yet figure out how to replicate. They built structures where we don't understand how they got the materials to the site much less how they were able to orient them astronomically and build them with such precision.
They laid the groundwork for modern math and astronomy by developing and discovering the concepts used.
IMO it takes far more genius to do THAT than simply build on what others have done before us.

Christianity may find those numbers in a book that might or might not be of interest to them..

So the story of smashing the idols is young Abram (pre-AbraHam) in Terah’s literal idol shop, left in charge, smashed all idols but one large one in whose hands he placed a hammer. Terah angrily questioned Abram what happened and he said that the idols fought and the big one smashed them all. To which Terah answered that they are just dump pieces of metal and pottery.... to which Abram quipped, “Why then, do you worship them?”
So it’s a story of Abram’s realization that one G-d created the world and all other forces, such that they are— including the “gifts” aforementioned... are subservient to G-d alone. “G-d of gods” as the Torah says.
The other trials are testing Abram’s faith in his belief...

What I’m throwing back at the Dragon, The Beast and Antichrist is their false version of Jesus, the gospel, and the Kingdom to Come with His Truth.
