Remember the much vaunted Spring Offensive in the Ukraine last year? Whenever you have a much hyped Spring Offensive broadcast in advance you already know it is doomed since you have given warning to the enemy to prepare for it which is exactly what happened in 2023 when a fully prepared Russia not only halted the Spring Offensive but pushed back as well. And now you have to get very very nervous because a German is calling for a Fall Blau II. What? The Germans haven't learned their lesson from the first Fall Blau 82 years ago? And now they (or at least the German in this video) wants a second go with a Fall Blau II?

Could someone please explain, what is going on with European leadership hyping up a war in the last week?
The war in Ukraine has been going on for two years plus and it’s pretty much a WWI style war of attrition with lines not changing much.
And now it seems Europe has belatedly decided they need a bigger war?
Did Boris Johnson borrow that line for use in 2022 when he told Zelensky not to sign a peace agreement with Russia and incentivized that stupid decision by promising to shower money upon him and his corrupt cohorts?

Hitler tried an offensive called Operation Barbarossa against Russia in 1941, and as I recall, it ended up with Hitler’s Army being bogged down in ice, snow and mud, and their eventual retreat. Hitler wanted Russia’s oil fields. What he got instead was his beloved Germany being dependent on Russian energy for the next 70+ years.

It’s the same type freak out that happened when Gorbachev was negotiating (actually being swindled, which was a VERY good thing) the end of the Warsaw Pact. The commie stooges like Jaruzelski and Honecker were completely against their countries being freed from under the Soviet boot heel because it meant the end of their power. Our European vassal state leaders are terrified that Trump is about to disengage the American big brother from the continent. They don’t want to have to stand on their own and deal with the Russians or the Germans or the Turks, etc. Let the American sugar daddy continue to force them to make nice with each other and to protect them from any other nation that they might blunder into a conflict with.
The Ukrainians were unable to get past the first line of defense. What makes the Germans think they can provide enough support to get Ukraine past three lines of defense?

I don’t know that swindling Gorbachev was such a great maneuver. If the Soviet Union had more slowly evolved into a democratic welfare state like France, Germany, or Sweden rather than jolted into a quasi-anarcho-capitalist mess that resulted in theft and corruption by oligarchs then Europe as a whole might have been in a much better position.
I’m assuming you don’t remember the mortal fear all of NATO had for the Warsaw Pact. I know I had that fear living in Ohio. This issues you bring up wouldn’t have warranted a second thought when contemplating the immediate fall of the Evil Empire.
I also remember Yugoslavians being allowed to walk across the border without being shot at or detained, and the Solidarity movement in Poland having increasing power without a repetition of the Prague Spring.
Gorbachev appeared to be an honest broker who we could make a lasting deal with. Boris Yeltsin now appears to be as much a CIA plant as Zelensky appears to be. We were told Americans were there to help transform Russia into a capitalist democracy, but now it appears that they were there to further castrate Russia.
I’m sure there are old guy FReepers who served in Germany during the 80s. Mention Fulda Gap to them and you’ll probably still get the small hairs on the backs of their necks to stand up. They will remember what a Warsaw Pact attack meant to them, Western Europe and to the U.S. after the NATO theater nukes started popping off.
