Both of my daughters lost their jobs. Can’t even get interviews. They have degrees in computer science and the other a master’s in data analytics.
They are both thinking of going back to school to get out of tech. One is thinking of becoming an audiologist. The other is thinking some sort of healthcare tech.
Healthcare is a great option these days. Healthcare jobs and new hospitals are mushrooming around our area of northeast Florida. Tech Indians are moving in like crazy and dominate some new home construction communities. They’re starting to take jobs in places like Walmart, too. I wouldn’t advise a career in tech to any young person these days. Good luck to your daughters.

If these kids were smart they would drive a truck for Walmart and get a 6 figure salary + benefits right out of high school Walmart is also paying for the trucking school!!!

We live in Bentonville. My daughter lives in Bentonville, and can’t get an interview with Walmart. Frustrating!

Poor choice. The new generation of hearing aids are self-fitting with the use of phone apps and calibrated ear pods or headphones. Less and less need for audiologists, and consumers saving $thousands.
I told him prior to college that he should get a real degree or a trade and he could still be heavily involved in youth ministry. He is a very bright kid and works hard and tries to be the best at whatever he does.
Oh well. Hard to dissuade my kid to not want to be in ministry.
I was talking to a guy whose son is about the same age as mine, and his son went to some training for working up high - suspended off of cranes and rappelling it sounded like. Was one of a few in the area. He said on those types of jobs he makes big money.
Heck - those jobs are probably safer than working on a regular job site where one is more likely to cut corners on safety. “Oh - I'm only 7 feet up, I don't need my harness just to screw in that one plate.”

I worked for Union Bay Sportswear back in the mid eighties to nineties. One day I was in a meeting with upper management and the owners (chinese) and the female half of the Chinese ownership just went OFF on a rant about the Indians and how they were never to be trusted, filthy horrible people. Was quite the eye opener. One of the designers called me later that day in amazement. We were both stunned.
