If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts, and since Windows just copied the Mac, it's likely that no personal computer would have them.

And Dan Rather would still have a job.

Actually, as commencement speeches go, that was pretty good.

Truth be told, a lot of what I knew about fonts came from becoming a Mac acolyte in 1989, and thoroughly reading the manual for MS Word 4 for Mac, which contained a discussion of typography, particuarly how the new technology made proportionally spaced fonts possible for common office documents.
