I need an interesting government statistic to write about. It needs to be a one page "feature article"

Any thoughts?

Here's one. 92% of government statistics are uninteresting.

Don't forget that 79.2% of statistics are made up.

I did a quick Google search and came up with (among others) Fedstats.gov. Hope that helps.

Those "pounds of (insert food here) eaten per person" are always interesting.

You could do potatoes or something more interesting like pickled herring, chicken gizzards, or pork rinds.

True story:
My best friend was a computer programmer in the pre-Microsoft days. I was reviewing his code for a program he was writing for the local community college that would track student statistics.
He had a subroutine to count the chronically unemployed. The start of that subroutine was a REM statement "...I jus' want to bang on de drum all day."
