Swearing parrot banned

A FOUL-mouthed parrot previously owned by a lorry driver has been banished from public areas in a British animal sanctuary after repeatedly embarrassing his keepers. Barney, a five-year-old Macaw, is now kept indoors at Warwickshire Animal Sanctuary in Nuneaton, central England, when outsiders visit after abusing dignitaries with swearword-littered insults.

"He's told a lady mayoress to f--- off and he told a lady vicar: 'And you can f--- off as well'," sanctuary worker Stacey Clark said.

Nor did the forces of law and order escape, she added.

"Two policemen came to have a look at the centre. He told them: 'And you can f--- off you two w---ers'."

Clark said sanctuary workers believed Barney either picked up the phrases from television or was taught them by his previous owner, a lorry driver who emigrated to Spain.

"He does say 'Hello, big boy' and 'Thank you' when you give him a biscuit," she added.

"But it's mainly naughty words and always to the wrong people. We're trying to teach him not to swear. Macaws are very intelligent birds."

Macaw ... who's a naughty boy? / file

I suppose it's too much to hope for that if I sent him the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania's home phone number, he'd know how to reverse the charges.

Like the lady said, macaws are very intelligent birds. I'm not about to second-guess the appropriateness of Barney's comments...

This reminds me of the story about a preacher that inherited a foul mouthed (foul beaked?) parrot. He tried and tried to get the bird to use more civil language but after about a week of trying he had taken enough and threw the bird in the freezer for about five minutes. When he took the parrot out the bird was very contrite and subdued. "I would like to apologize for my previous behavior and language and I assure you that it will not happen again." The preacher was dumbfounded until the bird said; "I just have one question. What did the turkey in there do?"

My daughter has 2 macaws upstairs in the bedroom next to my wonderful son, who gets really upset at loud noises. Her birds have taken to saying " shut the $&@# up".
Now my 2 African grey's only say cute things, because I threatened family. My greys will imitate perfectly the voice of the person who they are imitating. So, if they say foul things, I'll know exactly whose mouth to soap up! The worst they do is mumble under their breath.
