CENTURY CITY, CA, United States (UPI) -- Longtime CBS and NBC executive Perry Lafferty, credited with bringing 'MASH' and 'All in the Family' to the small screen has died at age 87.
Lafferty died Aug. 25 of prostate cancer at his Century City, Calif., home, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
Former co-worker Fred Silverman said Lafferty brought 'quite a lineup' to the air during his 11 years as head of West Coast programming for CBS. The network was constantly No. 1 in the ratings with programs such as 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show,' 'The Waltons' and 'Maude.'
Lafferty started with CBS radio and worked his way up through the ranks to take over CBS` West Coast operations in the early 1970s. He left in 1979 to become head of NBC`s West Coast programs and talent and assumed control of the network`s movies and miniseries in the mid 1980s.
Lafferty once said his proudest NBC achievement was the Emmy-winning 'An Early Frost,' which he developed and produced about a man dying of AIDS.
Lafferty turned to writing after retiring from TV. His works included three mystery novels about retired FBI agent Jack Jablonksi. He is survived by a son, daughter and two grandchildren.
I have a friend, another NBC exec, who will undoubtedly be going to this funeral.
I liked early episodes of MASH and All in the Family, but I never liked the Waltons. Goodnight John-boy. Oh John-boy, you may want to have that thing on your face checked out, it may be a Melanoma.
Grandpa Walton, ole Will Geer, was a bonafide Stalinist.
....smells like something died.
So is Ed Asner.
I liked the later episodes of MASH...

One of the few folks I can say without a doubt whom is likely to go to hell (along with the Clintoons).
a liberal television executive I bet.
His passing is so sad. "MASH" and "All In The Family" have really impacted my life (and still do).
