Hey everyone! Ditter's got a gay dog.

I have a female JRT that we bred with a male JRT appropriately named "Trouble." She had to show him how it was done.

I spoke to a dog breeder about it, she said when Cate is 'ready' wink wink, that Hairy would know what to do. As soon as this storm has cleared and things are back to normal here, Cate is going to be boarded until she is herself again. Then she is having a hysterectomy, we don't do puppies.The reason we don't do puppies is because we could NOT bear to get rid of any. We know ourselves pretty well.

I know what you mean. Gracie and Trouble hooked up but we found out when she tried to birth that she only had 1 puppy and it was so big that she almost died trying to birth it. It was one of the most traumatic (and expensive) experiences of my middle aged life. I will never birth puppies again. Trouble lived up to his name in my house.

And Gracie was plenty ready but Trouble never would have figured it out without her help. However, once he figured it out, there was no problem.

Yeah, thanks Darnright, Hairy is not gay. I am glad to know the exact day (12 to 14th)because we reportedly have coyotes in the area (the middle of Houston) and I am terrified at the thought of what a coyote or several coyotes could do to my 2 other JRT's if they came in the yard to find Cate. Hairy and Cookie would be a snack.

This group, Pasado's Safe Haven, has been doing a tremendous job trying to rescue animals down in NO.

They are now looking for a staging area in TX for post-Rita rescues:

"Texas Rescue next: PasadoRescuers will return to New Orleans to continue to help the animals there AND send teams to Texas. We are in need of a large staging location near to Houston - who can help? We're seeking a farm, and property owners, who are willing to allow us to triage animals, allow rescuers to sleep there, and stage all rescues from there for up to a few weeks. PLEASE find someone to help us!

I just got off of the phone with the Houston SPCA. They have several bits of information they would like to get out to folks who live in and around Houston.

1. First and foremost, if you are evacuating (and you should be) TAKE YOUR PETS! There is a shortage of kennels and crates in the Houston area right now, and the SPCA is out. Nevertheless, they suggest cutting large breathing holes in a box or a big Rubbermaid container if it comes down to
that, but TAKE YOUR PETS WITH YOU.

2. The Houston SPCA (contrary to rumor) is NOT boarding pets for Hurricane Rita. In fact, they have evacuated their animals.

3. The following hotels take pets: Motel 6 (800-466-8356), La Quinta (1-866-725-1661), Comfort Inn (1-877-424-6423), some Marriotts, some Hiltons.

4. The following Texas shelters are offering space or fostering for the animals of people evacuating because of Hurrican Rita:

a. Humane Society/SPCA of Bear County (San Antonio) (210)
226-7461. I personally confirmed that they are taking Hurricane Rita animals..

b. SPCA of Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth) (972) 562-7297 ext. 123
www.spca.org (yes, that really is their URL!) Has literally hundreds of foster homes available for hurricane pets. I personally confirmed this information with their media director.

c. Austin Humane Society (512) 646-7387 for the hurricane
hotline and (512) 837-7985 main shelter. I could not get an answer at either number after 5 pm but they are on the Houston SPCA list.

PLEASE heed their advice and take your pets!! The resources are not available to pull off another New Orleans rescue. Houston's back-up shelter, by agreement, for hurricane evacuation is: the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans...need I say more.....others have stepped in to take their shelter pets, but they really need for Houston residents to be
responsible and not contribute to another hurricane pet crisis."

Hairy got his name because he is REALLY hairy. He is a Jack Russel Terrier pure bred from a kennel not a back yard breeder but people refuse to believe he is not half Alsa Apso or Bischon with JRT color and markings or something like that. He looks like a very small Petite Bason Griffon or what ever they are called. Adorable dog, sweet disposition, cutest to look at, friendliest dog I have ever owned. Hairy should be a father some day but not to a female of ours because I could never get rid of them.

Update re: Whiskerville.org -

The last posting I saw was this: Whiskerville.org says "It is now too late to move these 300 cats 7 dogs, we have looked and talked with many folks, including people who could possibly, send cargo aircraft to Houston, but the Airport roads are grid-locked."

I believe the owners of the sanctuary are planning to stay with the pets.

On another matter, is anybody still looking to get horses out? I've got a friend in Glen Rose with 30 acres who will take all the horses and cattle you can bring.
