Basically a play on the Day After Tomorrow movie.... cheesy acting... just awful scientific premise.

Did you ever see Earthquake? Cat7 is kinda like that (the interwoven lives, story lines) but w/o the high tech, 1970 special effects.

2 thumbs down...just watched about 15 minutes of it.

The premise is heat islands being generated over cities and interactions with "chunks" of the mesosphere falling due to global warming. The heat islands are of course a result of our power plants, SUV's, etc. Add to that a blatant slap at evangelicals, with a radical trying small scale versions of the ten plagues from the Old Testament and a greedy widow of a TV evangelist, White House coverups, dysfunctional families, and you have what now passes for wholesome entertainment. I think it is a liberals wet dream portrayal of making every group they don't agree with look bad. Tune in next week for the conclusion and see who gets to live, who dies, and why we need to sign Kyoto now.

/sarcasm off

All that what you said, plus is it missing that snazzy Sensuround sound system. And George Kennedy. Don't they know you can't have a disaster movied w/o George?

Yeah, but they do have Randy Quaid. Wonder if he'll survive this one.

I have to say I love these kinds of stupid movies, no plot bad effects and 10 minutes of commercials for every 10 minutes of movie.

LOL...I miss the Love Boat for that same reason. Today's version would be even more fun...on the B and C list actors, you could see who has been botoxed, lifted, augmented, lipo'ed.

I thought films like Rocket Attack, USA (1958), Invasion, USA (1952), and Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea (which I saw on the big screen in 1961) were pretty bad, but Category 7: The End of the World makes them look like Gone With the Wind, Citizen Kane, and Casablanca, respectively.

Besides the unconvincing computer graphics and the bad acting and screenwriting, one aspect of the program that particularly annoyed me was the actors' inability to correctly pronounce the word "mesosphere" (they left out the "s" that follows the "o"), despite the fact that one scene featured the term correctly spelled.

I noticed the program is to be continued next week. If I'm in the mood to watch TV next Sunday night, rather than tuning in to CBS, I'll probably dig out a videotape of a really good TV program such as The Texaco Star Theater, The Toast of the Town, The Voice of Firestone, or I Led Three Lives.

Did you notice the commercials were so bad, they had them running back to back? Like for the Profilers show? Ridiculous.

This may possibly be the stupidest movie I've ever watched.

And I've watched a lot of stupid movies in my day!

I got as far as the "energy companies" supressing "evidence" that they were causing global warming.
(less than 5 minutes into the 1st episode.)
