I was stationed at LSA Anaconda in Balad.

I will let you guys know. My appeal is next week. I am looking for a place anyway, but don't know if I will find something affordable. Everything is so outrageous rent wise now. I just spent a huge amount of money on moving expenses last month. I can't believe I will have to pay for all this all over again already.

Hey, I really feel for you. In fact, reading your post reminded me how much I really like posting this picture:

That's cool.

I spent a year at Camp Victory primarily.

I flew through Balad a couple times but didn't stay there very long.

Mail delivery in New Orleans should improve with plant reopening

01:23 PM CST on Wednesday, February 15, 2006
Associated Press

Mail deliveries to the New Orleans area should improve substantially when a Hurricane Katrina-damaged plant restarts operation this spring, a U.S. Postal Service official said Wednesday.

Deliveries -- including magazines and advertisements -- could be back to normal this summer, said Dolores Killette, a Postal Service vice president and consumer advocate. She was scheduled to update the New Orleans City Council on the city's mail service on Thursday.

Since the Aug. 29 storm, only first-class mail delivery has been available in New Orleans. Even those deliveries are generally slower than before the storm.

No magazines or other non-first-class pieces are being delivered because the New Orleans plant, located near the Super Dome, had its basement flooded and electrical system badly damaged, forcing the closure of the mail-processing facility.

The facility handled all mail for the New Orleans metro area before the storm. In December, the busiest month, it averaged 20 million pieces before the storm.

She wouldn't offer precise dates on re-opening of the plant, but she said service there will be phased in over time and could be back to normal this summer.

I understand that's where you are from, and it's difficult to start over, but this is probably a sign to move on to a better place.
I lived in Mississippi when I was in the Air Force (two years), but I wouldn't stay there permanently. Move up North...OHIO!!!! : ) That's where I live, we don't get hurricanes up here! Stay strong!

Hasn't it been 24 hours? I thought that you would be thrown out by now. Sorry you didn't bother to read what I told you, but I guess the 24-hour deadline wasn't real, anyway.

Oh, now I get it. I told you I was a female and you don't talk to other women. OK. And I told you I am poor and you don't talk to poor people. OK. Whatever.

What are you talking about? I was able to file an appeal to get some time and have been extremely busy trying to figure out what to do, juggle my job and now fight the flu!
I have tried to respond to everyone, but there are over 200 posts on this thread!

As of your last posting about timing last night, you said you had only 24 hours. Other posters seemed to think so, too, as they were saying it, also.

I came upon the thread and saw that, so made suggestions about what you *could* do in 24 hours that would allow you to keep your pets and your stuff. No one else did that.

Then you replied to all the new posts before mine and all the posts after mine and even to people who flamed and insulted you! I nudged you with a ping earlier in the day by saying "you're welcome," as if you'd said "thank you" to me to acknowledge that the info helped you.

Still no response. If you only had 24 hours to move, as I believed you did, then I would've understood - but you were also replying here to others. Never mind! You asked for free advice and you got it.

I understood. The USPS didn't deliver your paychecks. I hope things are working out.

I do have an out of town storage unit. I have a mover on standby. I just spent the money doing all this moving and I can't believe I will be doing it again already. Too bad I can't live in it. It took me some time to find this great job and I don't want to lose it because of all this BS and having no place to live.

I've contacted some ranking USPS people and they are rallying on my behalf--they have been really great. I'm not angry with them. I understand what they must be having to deal with. I am furious with my landlord who is taking advantage and being a jerk. His wife told the judge they had someone else waiting to rent it--can you believe it? I am sure it is for a LOT more money than I am currently paying.

It seems I would have been better off with fema and red cross assistance, a fema trailer and/or free hotel expenses than trying to do this through my own hard work and money.
I think you have to be a crook, an a**hole or on welfare to live here.

Yes, I am afraid I do believe it. I have seen this before under different circumstances when housing was at a premium.

I am sure it is for a LOT more money than I am currently paying.

I am sure this is the crux of the matter. It may be the money, it may be friends or family of one or the other of them, or it may be both.

It is a raw deal and a bad situation. How are you doing at finding another place? Expect that you may have to pay a lot more for one as landlords with liveable units discover how much those are at a premium. The advice about finding someone with units that need cleanup or repairs and trading 'sweat equity' for part or all of the rent (if you have the time and ability) may be your best bet if all else fails.

nolalakeviewgirl, I used to live in Lakeview, too. I moved after the 1995 flood. Have you considered moving out of New Orleans?

I WON! In a way anyway. I have until the end of March AND the judge made him use the deposit he has as February's rent. Boy, did that make him mad. He was jumping up and down insisting that I be put out in 24 hours and the judge wouldn't do it. He could have though! This state is 100% PRO landlord. Landlord was SO mad he didn't get his way. He did the best he could to try and get me out today.
I really got the best deal I could. I could have won outright, but he would have turned around and given me notice to leave in 30 days because he wants possession. I only have a month to month lease. Believe me he would have done it. He did say in court that he has another tenant--imagine that!!!
He also said in court that this was the first he heard of my paychecks being lost in the mail--liar liar.
The congressman's office can verify that.
Now I have to figure out the procedure to get my appeal bond back.
Kinda fun winning against a lawyer!

Congratulations, it is always nice to beat a lawyer, almost as much fun as birdshotting one.

Now maybe you have time to try to follow through on some of the suggestions that I and others gave you. Good Luck.
