Actually I feel bad that a player is suspended for an incident basically off the pitch, unrelated to the game.

The Argyles have to take the bulk of responsibility from what I can see for going mental. To the casual observer, some of their folks acted in poor taste whatever the provocation.

Because it would be better for Italy to win without a sidebar controversy. Oh yeah, it's Italy, how can there not be a sidebar controversy?

As I said, it's a bit subtle. FWIW, Fifa president Joseph Blatter has just apologized for the unfortunate circumstances of the suspension. Never mind.

It ain't worth much since he signed the order banning the player 2 matches.

Agree with your Sweden match depiction. But Karl Heinz - you're Sweden. :)

I think you are still not getting the point. I am not saying that something terrible has happened here. I am not trying to convince you of anything. I am worried that the crowd might be misbehaving at the game tonight. That they might boo during the Italian national anthem or something similarly awful. I hope they won't. I am sorry I brought it up. I wish I could delete the post. Can we now end this utterly pointless discussion? Thanks.

I don't believe what I am seeing! A Brit rooting for France! What is this world coming to? ;)

Sorry cartan, my discussion on the matter was only half-hearted and for comic value. It would be a shame if the mood gets ugly at the match/tournament.

Well two sides to that coin. One, he has a financial interests in the matter. Two, he may also be rooting for good football no matter the country of origin.

There's a lot of us in one, the other or both camps.

I don't doubt it. France has earned their place in this World Cup, and they have surprised me thus far. With England out, I am putting my full support behind Germany, but I like all of the other teams, so I do not mind if any of them end up as the victor.

Ah, no need to apologize. I am working, posting, and drinking about my 20th cup of coffee, all at the same time. I guess I should just relax a bit and go kick those damn pidgeons that are scoffing at me from just outside my office window instead... ;-)

Still can't stop feeling bad for England. I hate when a match gets ruined by a ref's call. In this case I've watched the replay of the match and the Rooney breakdown many times. Concluded that he was at fault for the step but it's not all that obvious from several views. One later angle is pretty damning although the actual foot is almost like a push backwards on the player more than a step directly on him.

Would have liked to see all the players on the pitch for the full 90 or 120. Then again Portugal did not have Deco either.

It's a shame when this stuff messes up a match.

I love John Terry and really felt bad for him. He's such a great player.

France should win against Portugal but I can't predict the German/Italian match. I won't be surprised either way.

I started watching Tour de France last night... where the hell are Bosso and Jan Ullrich?? I'm off to read the rags online.

They were implicated in the Spanish Inquisition.

And Vinokourov!!! He wasn't accused, his team was just left decimated by the scandal and had to pull out because they now don't have the required six riders.

Man this suuuuuuuucks. Those are the 3 guys I was really looking forward to watching.

Yes, I was about to post to you about poor Vinokourov. That truly sucks.

I was gratified to see Hushovd's return to the maillot jaune yesterday. I'm rooting for Hincapie, of course, but I hate to see a strong competitor taken out by a stupid pointy sign.

Yeah that was something. He was bleeding like a stuck pig, but it turned out to be more his conditioning (as I thought it might). Their hearts beat so fast and they have super-human metabolism for this race, so it makes sense that a three-stitch cut would look like a gory mess on the ground. He got his head bashed by a camera, too. Poor guy!!

same feelings here...

btu it was about time somebody put a hammer down on this ... they couldn't keep theri sport clean.

After France and Italy now Spain has a suffisticated Anti-Doping law.

Hope Germany and the US will step up. For the sake of the cyclists.

Some of the riders are wired for biotelemetry, and during the sprint yesterday at the end, OLN showed them pulling 175-180 bpm!

I believe I would be quite dead before I reached 150.
