Duane 'Dog' Chapman arrested by feds
Yahoo ^

Posted on 09/14/2006 4:18:44 PM PDT by SmoothTalker

"TV reality star Duane "Dog" Chapman and two co-stars on his show were arrested Thursday in Hawaii on charges of illegal detention and conspiracy in an alleged kidnapping three years ago"

"he charges stem from Chapman's capture of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster on June 18, 2003, in Puerto Villarta, Mexico, said Marshals spokeswoman Nikki Credic in Washington.

Chapman's capture of Luster, who had fled the country after being convicted of raping three women, catapulted the 53-year-old bounty hunter to fame and led to the reality series on A&E."

" Chapman's son Leland, 29, and Timothy Chapman, 41, no relation, assist Chapman in exploits chronicled for the TV show around the Hawaiian Islands. The show focuses on Chapman's family as much as the bounty hunting, which generally involves tracking down bail jumpers, often creating emotional scenes with repentant captives."

" Charges have been pending against the three since local police in Mexico arrested them shortly after they roped in Luster. They posted bail but never returned to Puerto Villarta for their court hearing on July 15, 2003, Credic said."

Whether you like him or not, it sucks. Federal authorities here are arresting a US citizen who was doing the jobs the mexicans wouldnt do. The mexican cops were hiding Luster. Now, on behalf of the mexicans we are holding a US citizen. That really sucks, when you think of how many bail jumpers are hiding in Mexico that the Mexicans wont lift a finger to find..

So what are the feds going to do, send the three of them back to Mexico so they can be jailed for who-knows-how-long when they won't deport illegals? I don't think so.

Dog-and-pony show (no pun intended). They'll work out a suitable diplomatic tongue-lashing to appease the Mexican constabulary, and be declared persona-non-grata in Mexico for a while. Maybe pay a fine to some corrupt judge, and that's it. Last person turn out the lights, please.

So you actually think that waste of sperm Andrew Luster should have gotten away with raping all those women?
What's wrong with you!?

A millionaire like luster could "hide" in plain sight down there. From the sounds of it he simply continued to use drugs to rape women there.

There's something wrong with punishing a man for having the cajones to do what our govt. apparently couldn't do and mexico was to corrupt to do.

That's been my question. Do the feds automatically carry out foreign arrest warrants?

Sadly, I was wrong. From the earlier thread:

MSNBC's Rita Cosby is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Dog, Beth, Leland, Tim, and Duane Lee treat their captured fugitives with respect, dignity, kindness, and sympathy. They're responsible for the rehabilitation of many people, and America is lucky to have them.

The Mexican "justice" system is so utterly corrupt that it can't be treated seriously. Considering that the Chapmans could simply have vanished for years--or permanently--in a filthy Mexican jail, I think jumping bond was the only rational course of action. If I'd been the Chapmans I'd have done the same, an act I would never consider in the U.S.

Now that they're famous, I think they'll be safe and won't just disappear. I hope this all works out quickly and that they're soon back on the job, serving our public so well.

Mexico should be told to "stick it" until they learn to respect our border.

The guy Chapman got is serving 126 years in prison for murder.
Why is it so important for Mexico to get Dog when he was taking a bad guy back home to his country of origin?
From what I understood, Mexico claimed they couldn't find him, but Chapman did.

I think this is about Mexico's local thugs losing a meal ticket and wanting to prosecute Chapman to make a statement and find the snot out of him since he makes money.
