Hmmmm. I can tell you with some authority (grew up just several blocks down the same street) that this wasn’t the first decapitated body the town’s ever seen. There used to be a hobo jungle near the (then GM&O) railroad track bridge and once in a while a transient would get sufficiently drunk and use the rail as a pillow. Somebody would find the head and then people would go down the river looking for the body or they’d find the body and go looking for the head. It was a big scary adventure for young kids.
