Hehe....you bee silly!
He seems a bit sleepy, but his breathing is fine.
:-D
Well the sleepiness was from the anti-histamines.
My dog wasn’t stung the time he ate half a dozen anti-histamines. But there were other times that he did get stung near the eyes and swoll up like a baseball . And each time I gave him anti-histamine. And he was fine.
“Pee on the effected areas”
You might have just made Freeper history!!
I can see this quote right up there with:
sister/moose, Cheese, Hugh, Stuned, Beeber, Series, Shower,etc.....
One can only hope!!!
You're right about becoming increasingly sensitive. With allergies, I'm told that it's mostly genetics, but the older we get the more sensitive we can become. I was surprised to learn how many get hay fever later in life. Like you said, even if someone isn't initially very sensitive or allergic, the first sting or stings primes your body's defenses so much that if they get stung again, the body's response really kicks in and can often be overwhelming or fatal. Some are sensitive or allergic and don't know it until they get stung with their next experience being revived by an EMT.
I got stung several times this summer and none were all that big of a deal until the last time. The places where they stung me hurt a bit, but I felt fine until I got into the house. Then all of a sudden it was time to call 911. It's been a summer to remember this year.
Benadryl, over the counter and safe for dogs
if it is in one area apply ice ASAP
Benedryl
Similar situation, ran my dog to the vet, a.s.a.p.
Vet told me to keep Benedryl on hand - for the “next” time. (Dogs will be dogs.)
I just noticed this. As I got toward the end of the thread, it looks like your dog’s going to be okay. Good thing he’s a larger breed!
What is it with dogs chasing wasps? Mine will go after any flying bug, and he CATCHES and EATS them! He seems to have no problem with wasps, either. It's amazing how quick he is, just waiting till they get in reach of a *snap!*.
At first, I googled, but found holistic doggie heath sites, that offered no information.
I knew FReepers could, and would help.
Thank you all so much!
Hair of the dog, thanks so much for the emergency ping.
Due to his thick hair, I don’t think the bees stung him as much as they could have.
He was full of bees when he came in, and a few minutes later, I found him standing in the bath tub.
This from a dog that hates a bath.
I started the shower, and the bees started falling from his fur; my son valiantly crushed each one. :-)
Thank you so much, everyone who took the time to help.
I have a picture of the bee, or whatever it was, to post, but I am waiting for my camera to recharge.
Again, thanks everyone!
Yep...of all the people I know, or have read about, I have the least bit of permanent damage or scarring of any. I was “lucky” in the sense it bit me on the elbow where the skin is pretty thick, and I was in a position where I was able to get medical attention almost immediately. I know people who were not so fortunate, and have huge gaps or pits in their flesh due to necrosis from recluse bites.
Well, I’ve been through it a few times with dogs, I had a cocker who liked to eat bees and her whole face would swell up, and she was only 20 pounds. I would give her up to four benadryl. Only once did she really need veterinary assistance and that was because I think she got stung in the throat and was having a hard time breathing. They can give a shot of antihistamine in that case, that acts quicker.
My dog had hives the size of a baseball. He’s a short haired dog, so we could see them. We aren’t sure what it was, probably yellow jackets or hornets, but it gave us a scare.
Get your dog to a vet emergency room ASAP!
Hey TC.
He is scratching and chewing at certain parts a bit, but it looks like he’ll be fine.
I’m so relieved, although I will continue to watch him. :-)
Us FReepers are so lucky that we have a live place, in an emergency, to turn to.
:-D
I’m so glad. :)
Me too.
Thanks Trisham!
Mine are large hounds, but it's all the same, isn't it?
I agree. I’m fortunate to live close to my vet.
