Phone companies around the world offering IPTV are expected to see a 32 percent increase in subscribers by 2014, according to a new report published by market research firm ABI Research.
ABI's report notes that while traditional satellite and cable TV platforms will likely continue to retain a foothold in most markets, new IPTV services that provide interactive television will grow to nearly 79 million subscribers over the next five years.

Here’s what my family is looking for—a service that allows you to pick and choose only the channels you want.
We don’t have cable now because we don’t want to pay for bundled channel packages that force you to support garbage like the gay channel, MTV, etc.
I check every week at the ATT website to see if I can get UVerse.
My daughter has it and loves it!
Well this will only work for a few of us. The US is still a 3rd world country when it comes to infrastructure issues like area coverage with broadband internet. In some rural areas in the south west people are glad to have a poor quality phone line you can run at 14k4 with your modem. This is something that should really CHANGE.
Check this out, I found it’s planned for my area Nov. 2009.

1st post since the election - I’m Baaaaaaaack.
Who will be able to afford it?
It’s worse than that here behind the Redwood Curtain where half the channels WE PAY FOR are infomercials 24/7
I figure if my cable company switches to IPTV over the existing line I can probably get a lot higher quality HDTV. I don’t care about interactivity. TV/movies are a passive activity.
LOL at tagline!
The definition of IPTV is-—?
Yes. I too want the same thing. That would hopefully be another advantage of future IPTV developments.
The “regular” cable providers that we’ve had for years have fought ala carte for years.
Internet services like VOIP are cheaper than the old standard.
So while at first, I’m sure IPTV will come out more expensive(as all new things do) it shouldn’t take long for it to drop.
Yeah, higher quality should be a realistic expectation as well.
I don’t care about interactivity either. I care about price, but also as the first poster pointed out, a la carte. I know that’s a long shot but it’d be sweet.
In a simplistic explanation, it’s TV that comes over the internet.
Just like VoIP is telephone that comes over the internet.

Thanks.
My son has wireless internet from Alltel for his laptop on base in AZ. He’s currently in NV and it is working well there too. It isn’t cheap though ($65 mo.) but it’s broadband speeds.
Huh? Hmm never heard of it, and we are on AT&T internet. I would love to get rid of cable, we only watch maybe 3 or 4 channels.
