Adding former Sen. Edward M. Kennedys name to Logan Airport is a dumb idea.
In a June 19, 1964 plane crash, the senator almost lost his life.
The senators nephew, John F. Kennedy Jr., died in a plane crash off Marthas Vineyard.
Rep. Lori Ehrlich, a Marblehead Democrat, filed legislation today that would rename the airport Logan-Kennedy International Airport.
Everybody needs to slow down and take a breath.
The Senate Institute at UMass might be nice, then a school here or there and maybe a hospital wing or cancer center, but lets not overdo it and lets be smart.

Why not name it after his nephew the late John F Kennedy Jr., whose flying inexperience cut short his life as well as his wife and sister in law. That would make as much sense.

There are already proposals to name schools after the Swimmer. I would suggest the Dike Bridge in Chappaquiddick would be a better fit.
oops, the following should have been part of post 1 not story body.

I was thinking along the lines of a boat ramp.
Definitely a bridge. Or a swimming school.
Eventually, he’ll have his name on more buildings than Sheets Byrd does or ever will.
My home town!
This man was almost crying as he told the story.
Fine with me as long as they name the bridge where he killed Mary Jo after him and Mary Jo, too.

Logan International Airport, named for a South Boston native who served in the Spanish-American War and World War I and commanded the Massachusetts National Guard, should be renamed Logan-Kennedy International Airport, according to legislation filed Wednesday by a Marblehead state representative.
Rep. Lori Erlich wants to add the late Sen. Edward Kennedys name to the airport, calling it an opportunity to memorialize Senator Kennedy and keep his legacy alive.
By keeping Logans name on the airport, Erlich said in a letter to colleagues asking for support, Their names and distinguished careers would serve as a beacon to welcome millions of travelers who fly into our state from lands near and far. I believe this would be a fitting way to remember the significant contributions he made to our state and country.
Gen. Edward Lawrence Logan was a longtime veterans advocate, state commander of the American Legion and president of the National Guard Association, who served in the Boston City Council and in the state Legislature.
Makes sense, it was Kennedy who restricted CIA intelligence gathering that ultimately allowed terriorist to take off from Logan....
great idea for an airport surrounded by water
There are four cities in MA named for Endicott Peabody. Endicott-Oeabody-Marblehead and Athol.
Hey, I have a couple. Why not change the spelling of Hyannis to High Anus and then change the name of the airport there to the Edward Moore Kennedy High Anus Airport and have the FAA change the airport's three letter designation to ASS?
Jeeeezzz, why are they in such a hurry to name something after Kennedy?
Logan doesn’t need another name after it....it is a dumb idea.
also in today’s Herald—the first of many schools that could well be named after him
>>The Boston School Committee tonight will hear a proposal to rename a charter high school after the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Officials from the Health Careers Academy, located on Northeastern Universitys campus, will plead their case at the 6 p.m. meeting to rename the school Edward M. Kennedy Academy for Health Careers: A Horace Mann Public Charter School. Mayor Thomas M. Menino presented the idea Friday in a letter to the schools board of trustees and headmaster Dr. Caren S. Walker Gregory.
Mumbles Menino, who can barely speak English. I can’t wait for him to say the entire name of the school (above)
And yes, it is an election year for the mayor.

The only place that needs the Kennedy name distinctly displayed is their headstone.
We will rest assured.
That joke’s older than me. But having lived in Mass. for a few years, I appreciate it. (I lived in Marblehead for about two of those years, BTW).
It would be appropriate to name the duty-free shop after the buoyant lush, though...
