Since being crowned "World's Tallest Dog," on Thursday by Guinness World Records, Titan, a 4 year-old Great Dane, has appeared on the Today Show and The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

"It's been awesome," the dog's owner, Diana Taylor, tells Pet News Examiner. "I've been amazed at the response he's gotten from people." His website, Titan & Friends, received so many hits that it exceeded the bandwidth and was temporarily shut down.

Taylor hopes to use Titan's newfound fame to help the public learn more about Great Danes and especially those that are all white. "Unscrupulous breeders will sell these all white dogs as 'exotic and beautiful' without telling people that the dogs are often deaf," says Taylor, who has another blue-eyed, all white rescued Great Dane named Ari, who who had been given up by the original owner. "The shelters are full of dogs like Titan and Ari."

Taylor adopted Titan through Petfinder.com, the largest online database of adoptable animals at shelters and rescue groups across the country. He was three months old and already weighted 55 pounds. "I had no idea Titan would be so tall," says Taylor. "But he just kept growing." Titan stands a towering 42.25 inches.

Despite news reports that Titan is blind, deaf and epileptic, Taylor says her dog is very healthy "He's been painted in the media as a 'hot mess,' but he's fine and leads a very full life," says Taylor, who lives in San Diego, Calif. with Titan, Ari, and a German Shepherd named Diego. Titan doesn't need to take medication for his epilepsy and hasn't had a seizure for more than a year. He got a clean bill of health when recently screened for cancer. "He goes to the beach all the time, where he runs full tilt chasing Ari down the beach until he loses her smell," says Taylor, "Titan's a happy dog. He's a rock star."

We have dobermans. They’re not exactly small, one at 100 pounds and the other 115.

Recently we met a huge (yes HUGH!) black great dane. He was magnificent! Very well behaved and gorgeous. He had white paws and white on his chest.

We spoke with the owner and said we are used to big dogs, and are not often surprised at the size of a dog...but “that’s a big dog!”.

He was awesome. We decided that it wasn’t so much the size of the body that was so much bigger, it was that his legs were a lot longer.

I went to the Irish Festival in Baltimore this weekend - and fell in love with the Irish Wolfhounds.

If only these big dogs lived as long as the little ones! We have had dachshunds that lived to 14 and 15 years of age. It was so hard to lose them. I can’t imagine going throught that with a wolfhound every seven or eight years - but I might just take the plunge.
