Irish firefighters contain blaze at Guinness factory in Dublin

A fire broke out at the Guinness factory in Dublin shortly after noon local time. Over nine fire brigades and three rigs with aerial ladder platforms were able to contain the blaze before it spread to the ammonia plant at the site.

An official from Guinness was able to confirm that no one was hurt in the incident.

“There were no injuries to any personnel and the fire has been extinguished,” the spokeswoman said.

“An internal investigation is under way to find out exactly what the cause of the accident was.”

The fire broke out near the Victoria Quay entry to the factory, and locals in the area are being advised to keep their windows closed due to the amount of smoke in the air.

The blaze is believed to have started when felt on a roof that was being repaired by workmen caught on fire

Save the Harp vats, first!

I hope they get everything under control, quickly. What a tragedy. I've been there to that building.....on that tour. GREAT place (obviously).

I heard one of the firefighters fell into an open vat and drowned.

Of course, he climbed out four times to pee!

Fears for Guinness supply after Dublin fire

The Guinness brewery fire will raise fears about a shortage of the Black Stuff, as Guinness is known locally, over the Christmas holidays.

Clearly it was a major fire with 11 fire brigades at one point being called.

The country is flooded with returned emigrants and tourists over the holiday period and the first order of business is usually toasting friends and good fellowship with a pint of the black stuff.

A Guinness shortage would rank right up there with a national emergency. Fortunately, it is likely that supplies have been ordered well in advance for the Christmas season.

Worse, however, it may put a downer on one of Dublin's biggest attractions, the Guinness Store House, where visitors every year get to witness up close and personal the Guinness magic. It is a multimillion dollar revenue-generator badly needed in these trying times. No details yet, but obviously that attraction is now closed, but here's hoping if it is, it will be temporary.

"Pecker" is an old British slang word for "mood," "spirits," "level of enjoyment," "mental state."

During WWII, US Army troops arriving in England aboard ship we welcomed by a huge billboard that overlooked the harbor, excuse me, harbour. It read

"Drink Guinness Stout

It Keeps Your Pecker Up!"
