Medication for Back Pain May Have Contributed to Rush Limbaugh Chest Pains

There is a certain amount of negative innuendo, in light of Rush's prior addiction problem to narcotics. An equally plausible explanation might be that he was taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that are well known to cause esophago-gastric irritation, up to the point of ulceration and bleeding. Know what an inflamed esophagus feels like? Bingo- chest pain. Many emergency room visits for chest pain are due to GI upset.

Great insight. No innuendo is intended in this posting. I love Rush Limbaugh. Just posting the latest information based on what the Fox and Friends report said.

But you are right that it probably won’t be long before the Left will be trying to make something sinister out of the situation. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

All RX arthritis anti-inflammatory meds ought to come with black box warnings about the GI system IRRITATIONS. If one takes the time to read the literature that comes with it...tiny print that needs a magnifying glass to read...it can cause gas, bloating, constipation (which can lead to dependence on laxatives or an impacted bowel if you ignore the problem), acid reflux and (in my case that was so bad even Nexium couldn't handle it), along with very painful bowel and bladder spasms.

Gas and bloating can be very painful up under the heart area.

I'd rather endure the pain of OA in my spine and hands than take another anti-inflammatory arthritis drug it took several weeks to get the poison out of my system!

Thanks and I just took a double dose of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) this morning for my back pain!

Actually you are right on about NSAIDs but it's that or I won't be walking too well for the next few days. I fear with Rush however the chest pains had less to do with the pain medication (he was probably wisely just telling the paramedics what was in his system) and more to do with his heart. That dramatic weight fluctuation thing is very strenuous on the heart.

But I'm no doctor and I sure hope I'm wrong because in my book Rush has done more to advance the conservative cause than any other person alive. We need his voice now more than ever.

Exactly, when I see chest pain associated with pain medicine, I do not think narcs.

Either he is having PUD or posibly an MI triggered by NSAID induced coagulopathy.

I remember when the main treatment for MI was morphine. Things have changed a lot in the last 30 years.
