His act is a bit over the top but he is very successful in bringing timeless music to old and new audiences.

He's very engaging. The pleasure is all ours.

There is a young violinist that's coming of age....Naturally, I can't think of his name...

he's an entertainer...gives people what they like to hear, not like some orchestras that want to play the most obscure music they can find.....

his orchestra has FUN...the audience has fun....everyone is smiling...

I used to have a wonderful album of Strauss waltzes that I would play on Sunday mornings. I’d actually forgotten all about it until I saw this thread. Thanks for that memory, I’ll have to give it a try one day soonest!

I'd like to get a DVD of Mariss Jansons' New Year's Eve 2006 concert with the Vienna.

At the end of the final polka, he adds a bit of percussion; that is, he pulls a pistol from under the podium and fires it on the final beat.

I wonder if he's a member of the LRA. (That's the Latvian Rifle Association ≤}B^)

I am digging on 'Irish Washerwoman" from his Live in Dublin album on Itunes. Downloaded this and the 'Carnival of Venice,' as well as his Dreams album (for listening after and before hubby and my romantic dinners in the car. :-).

Last week download way too much classical music and albums so I skipped those (for tonight--lol.) Enjoy all!
