Joaquin Phoenix New Face of PETA

Joaquin Phoenix has come out of his self imposed retirement from Hollywood for a good cause. He is lending his celebrity to the controversial PETA group. The animal right’s group is targeting those people who wear real snakeskin.

Phoenix has been somewhat of a laughing stock in the past year among the Hollywood gossip scene. He made headlines after announcing he was retiring from the film industry in order to pursue his rap music career. His appearance on a late night talk show fueled rumors about his mental state and possible drug use.

He has since cleaned up and is offering his support for reptilians around the world. The graphic video plays while Phoenix narrates during the emotional scene. The reptilian skin trade is a brutal industry with no regard to the lives of the animals that are ruthlessly slaughtered every day. He appeals to his fellow celebrities to stop wearing or purchasing high end designer purses and bags that are made with snake and lizard skin.

PETA will be forwarding the video to stars like Jessica Simpson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Victoria Beckham. These celebrities are notorious fashion trend setters, and they have the ability to sway the public away from the purchase of these goods.

Isn’t this the dude from Gladiator? What was his name? Commode or something like that?

I find this to be kind of a shame. I have found the actor to be as good as any and much better than most and able to play widely diverse characters.

Oh, well. Life takes all kinds, I guess.

It takes a special type of person to pretend to be someone else for a living. Some are able to keep it together— most aren’t.

That is just a stoopid story. Snakes are also butchered for their meat and can be found in restaurants all over the South.

They can even be found in restaurants in New York.

I had dinner next to Juaqin at Restaurant Areole back in 2001 and he was eating meat, not snake but it was meat.

I suspect that's true. To me the shame of it is the waste. He's such a young fellow...to me most people are young these days...and talented.

Some people can walk away from it without self destructing. Doris Day did. Others have.

Is Joaquin scheduled for an early exit?

Commodus was the role which garnered him an Oscar nod..he was really good in “We own the Night” though. Alas, just like his brother River and having hippie parents, this is not surprising.

I will intentionally look for some kind of snakeskin apparel in the next few months. I don’t know what it will be, but even if I toss it in a drawer, I will buy it.

He also played Johnnie Cash in a very excellent performance; “I walk the line”...

Actually he is an excellent actor. Hopefully someday he will come to his sense and realize that PETA is just exploiting him.
