GAINESVILLE, Ga. -- An 89-year-old Hall County man is recovering from a pit bull attack, but his dog will not make it.

Aaron Sewell said he saw some dogs while he was walking his own dog Friday. He thought they were on a leash when one came charging at him and his terrier.

"I hit my head on the cement there and scratched my arm in several places" Sewell said.

The pit bull belongs to a couple who lives across the street from Sewell.

The attack left Sewell with bumps and bruises. His terrier was killed.

"My baby was laying right here with his little throat slit from here to here," Marie Sewell said. "My husband was laying right up above him on the ground."

Animal Control gave the pit bull owner, Christina Smith, a citation. The dog was taken and quarantined.

Channel 2 Action News reporter George Howell tried to talk to the pit bull's owner, but Howell was told to get off the property.

Gainesville police said Smith will likely not face charges in connection with the attack.

"The judge didn't feel that we had enough to issue any further charges," Gainesville police Lt. Keith Lingerfelt said. "There wasn't any intent on behalf of the owners of the dog."

"This incident could have killed my father," said Connie Jones. "I can not believe there will not be a warrant or any charges filed."

Sewell's family told Channel 2 Action News they may file a civil lawsuit.

“”There wasn’t any intent on behalf of the owners of the dog.” “

This loco judge should be disbarred.
When was “intent” ever required for a criminal negligence
charge?

I think that is a bunch of the problem,,,

Some states/cities will not put these dawgs down on their

first attack/bite,,,

Not in my town,,,

No second chance,,,

Pits go in but they don’t come out,,,

They get rendered...

The man needs to get a lawyer and get those people’s house. Make them broke. Be ruthless. Make their insurance company and them pay dearly.

The modern compound bow is the basic answer to a number of urban/suburban problems, including pit bulls. Silent, much more powerful than traditional bows of the same draw weight, and capable of killing animals much larger than a pit bull.

Hmm, another judge who fails to see that BAD OWNERS have EVIL INTENTIONS when they threaten the community with a POORLY TRAINED ATTACK ANIMAL.

Bet he's one himself.

Be neat to have somebody round up some wild dogs and have them ready for a JUMP OUT when the judge goes out to the parking lot to get his car after a hard day's work beating up the public.

Eat that B*tard alive Fur Shur.

All pit bulls and muslims should be neutered or spayed forthwith. The world would soon be a much better place.

Thanks for posting this. Now, you have left out the other one thousand, nine hundred and ninety or so other dog attacks that happened on the same day. No worries, as I am sure it’s because they never made it on the news.

By the way, my injuries a few months ago were far worse than this poor man’s bumps and bruises. The dogs were running loose, just like in this story, and the majority of the others. Where is my news story? Do you think I tried to hide the fact that I was attacked? There’s no reason why a labrador attack should garner any less media attention, but for some reason it does.
