Southern Shame, Southern Ghosts

The University of Mississippi has terminated its mascot, "Colonel Reb." The mascot, an archetypal Southern gentleman with a hat, cane, and a little bow-tie, is of course racist.

Affable, bearded and jaunty, with a bright costume that cleverly foiled his dark history on the plantation, Col. Reb, when he was alive, looked rather like that other infamous slave-driver, Col. Sanders, whose inscrutable and permanent smile these days (in markets where he still shows his face) offers only a faint clue as to the fortunes he's made in his long, post-war masquerade as a peddler of fried chicken.

"We just want it to be over," said one Mississippi student on the subject of Col. Reb's execution.

Watch your back, Sanders.

An excellent piece by a Southern gentleman on how political correctness is destroying every vestige of Southern pride and dignity.

In light of what and who occupies the power structure in Washington, DC, and what is becoming of this disunited states, we can learn alot from this piece.

Another piece of southern heritage down the drain because of some liberal sphincter in washingtoon. I can hardly wait to see what happens when they try to ban the STARS & BARS.

What we learn from this piece is that 13% of the population in the South rule the other 87%.

Institutional pride and integrity maybe... but let me assure you... it still burns in the hearts and minds of all Southerners. It couldn't be killed off in 1865 and no one can kill it today. Ole Miss is a joke... only lawyers send their kids there... and that should tell you all that you need to know about that school.

You’re welcome. And I agree with all the other sentiments. When we have what we have controlling our country now, secession seems more and more an idea that should openly and honestly be talked about. And the Battle Flag was not about slavery. If anything, the Union flag was the flag that the Africans first saw when they were brought over here.

It’s probably been banned already! The next flag to go is the Stars and Stripes. No doubt to be replaced by a green backdrop with CRESCENTS AND STARS! How does one say “Star Spangled Banner” in Spanish? And Arabic?

We are also often reminded of the criminal acts committed against the indian tribes in the west by the US Calvary and others: in general, the American South was under reconsruction, and disarmed both literally and politically. Who then committed the crimes against the native Americans?... perhaps the non-racist, high- and open-minded soldiers from the northern areas. Whatever flag they carried might be equally offensive to some, but something tells me that icon flys outside of my post office. The difference, I suppose, it that the Stars & Stripes was not co-opted by unmitigated racists.

I truly believe that the idiot libs will really have a helluva time on their hands if they ever try to replace any American flag, north or south, with a crescent. Especially here in the south. Personally, I will never bow to any dirt bag mussie or have any respect for them. Growing up in NYC, I learnt about musscums over 40 years ago and have hated them ever since. I have many good southen friends, one of whom considers me the younger brother he never had and I know they will fight to the death rather than bowing to isslime. I will join them without blinking an eye.

I watched on television as Vanderbilt ran over Ole Miss in Oxford two weeks ago. The crowd for the university’s SEC opener did not fill the stands and they were fairly subdued even when Ole Miss scored. Rebel fans were once a spirited crowd. I guess now they have learned to kowtow humbly.

Agreed! Unfortunately NYC is fast becoming “Islamistan.” I think that as it was in the 19th century, so it is now. The North is gone. The only salvation for this country is if the South gets its act together. We need a good ol’ Southern conservative boy to get elected president. Otherwise, goodbye USA.

Let’s remember our history now. In the 1920’s, when the Klan was at its peak, it marched down DC with the American (Stars and Stripes) flag. It’s only been since the 1980’s that neo-Nazis and Nazified Klan outfits have hijacked the Battle Flag.

Let’s also remember that the “Stars and Bars” is not the same as the “Battle Flag.”

Check here for the differences:

I agree with you that the north is gone. There are a few pockets of conservatism up there who are sick and tired of the libtards and the way they are doing things. A good ol’ Southern conservative boy would do wonders for this country with the state that it is in. However, I would not even think twice about voting for Palin if she ran for POTUS. My only hope there would be that she picks a fine southerner for a running mate and I don’t mean Graham either.
