In 150 Words: Christmas Day Bomber Proves TSA Wrong

The Christmas Day Bomber, who had powder in his underpants, could have been stopped a year ago. No, not because he is Muslim; I am against Religious and Racial Profiling. But the fact that he once was on a terror watch list; arrived at airport with not much carryon luggage; and bought with cash a one-way ticket to fly via a passport with a history of being in rouge countries, should have given a perfect profile that he may be a terrorist, and thus being stopped. – If only Reasonable Profiling had been in place.

However, had he arrived at the European airport with the current TSA rules, he would have a huge chance of not being pulled for a screening because we don’t use Reasonable Profiling. Instead, we treat everyone as equal suspects – thus enabling more attacks to take place.

TSA Budget: uncounted billions of $$$ in personnel, equipment and training

My Budget: $0 (zero)

Give me 100 persons chosen at random and give the TSA 100 persons chosen at random.

I guarantee you my odds of detecting and/or identifying potential terrorists are as good or better than the TSA. And I think you know why.

No, not because he is Muslim; I am against Religious and Racial Profiling.

Get over yourself, Yossi. Increased scrutiny should be the price Muslims pay for societal failure. If they are not going to teach their children to respect life and reign in the terrorists in their societies, then it is perfectly appropriate to examine them more closely.

I teach my children the Golden Rule. If I see them getting involved with violent or unstable people, I step in and direct them away from danger. If my neighbor or a friend told me he is going to go blow up a Post Office, I would tell him that that was a wrong thing to do. And if I thought he was serious, I would call the local cops the first minute I had a chance. If I went to church, and my Priest was railing against some other group and telling the parishioners that they had a duty to God to murder them, I would stand up and tell him he was wrong, and would not accept it.

These are things people do in functional societies. One result of these things is that terrorism is extremely rare in main-stream Western societies. But the Muslims fail to do this, and rampant Islamic terrorism is the result. It is completely appropriate that they bear a burden of increased scrutiny and profiling for their failures.
