Anyone else spending Christmas Eve alone?
Christmas Eve 2010 | Skooz

Posted on 12/24/2010 5:31:05 PM PST by Skooz

Just wondering if anyone else out there is spending the evening alone. Not necessarily a bad thing. I'm sipping a cappuccino and taking in "A Christmas Story" in the old man cave. I'll be with family tomorrow, but as of tonight, it's my faithful Boxer and me. And Ralphie.

Yeah me...and it sucks!

My man and I split just a few days ago. This time I believe it is for real and forever. He has rented his own place and packed and carted off the last of his stuff yesterday.

I initiated the “crisis” and he acted on it...

In the long run, probably a good thing but, right now, it just feels empty and lonely sitting here at the computer, alone, on Christmas Eve.

I’m there with you. Being alone is not the same as being lonely.

Merry Christmas!

Yes, in once sense, I’m alone! I spent this afternoon with daughter and her husband family (and 4 of our grandchildren).

Then I went to the life Care Center where my wife of 52+ years has been for the past 18+ months (She has altimers).

But I give thanks for all the blessings of this Christmas, and all the past Christmas’.

But in the other sense, I’m not ever alone. I’m aware of the presence of the One that said: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Hebrews 13:5b)

Oh, what assurances floods my soul, when I know the promises of God, and His faithfulness to me a sinner He came to save: who did not deserve the gift of eternal life.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

Hi there Skooz... I have spent so many Christmas Eves, Christmas Days, Thanksgivings alone or in odd circumstances over the years that I have become immune to it... Along the way I learned to equip myself with ‘Productive Solitude’ - finding ways to make time alone ‘self-building’...

This Christmas Day I will be entertaining my elderly Aunt who is quite frail and her daughter and granddaughter have not visited in a long while... She needs a good day...

Giving to and for others helps fix that ‘alone problem’...

And in addition - this year - tomorrow I am entertaining two teens - brother and sister who have not had a ‘Christmas’ in seven years - Yes that is what I said... maddening isn’t it!!!... It is a long stupid story - but My Christmas is being made by reaching out for them - doing something I have the insight and capability of doing... Making it better for others...

I am no Saint... not by a long shot... just finally realizing what needs to be done and doing it... I have the talents, skills and ability to make things better for others on Christmas and at other times - So, I am doing it...

No Miracles here - just one step at a time ...

Um, you’ve got your dog and us. That HARDLY qualifies as alone. But y’all come on over if you’re near Los Angeles...

Life is bad sometimes but if you have the right attitude (meaning believing in God and trusting Him) it always works out well in the long run.

For me when I have been alone, the thing has always been reaching out to other people. If you’re lonely on Christmas, somebody else you know is probably also lonely. Invite them to have a cup of hot chocolate with you and maybe set up your Nativity scene or put something on your tree.

If you love people, they will love you back. And sometimes you have to be the one who starts it. Don’t think of yourself as losing out; think of yourself as being available now to welcome others. God is good.

Pack a lunch. My experience has been that nothing is open on Christmas, especially fast food joints.
