Transgender activists face multiple challenges

Many transgender Americans face intolerance in almost every aspect of their lives, contributing to high levels of homelessness, unemployment and despair, according to a comprehensive survey being released Friday. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and the National Center for Transgender Equality say their survey of 6,450 transgender people is the largest of its kind. It details discrimination encountered "at every turn"—in childhood homes, in schools and workplaces, at stores and hotels, at the hands of doctors, judges, landlords and police.

"Their lives are just a crapshoot," said Rea Carey, executive director of the task force. "They don't know from one interaction to the next whether they will be treated with respect and dignity. It's not the way people should be living their day-to-day life."

The report comes at a sobering time for transgender community.

While their gay-rights allies celebrated the recent Senate vote that will enable gays to serve openly in the military, transgender people were left out of the debate and remain barred from service.

Efforts to pass a federal law barring workplace discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation failed in the previous Democratic-controlled Congress—gender identity was a key stumbling block—and the new Republican-led House is considered more hostile.

Uncertain of prospects for progress at the federal level, activists hope to make headway through lawsuits, corporate diversity programs, local anti-bias ordinances, and public education efforts. They hope the survey will buttress those efforts; some of the data had been released in preliminary reports, but the final version contains new details and is prefaced by an emotional plea for Americans to rethink their attitudes.

"It is part of social and legal convention in the United States to discriminate against, ridicule, and abuse transgender and gender non-conforming people," the survey says. "Nearly every system and institution in

If you get problems from your behavior from everybody you meet, should you not look in the mirror, and say; I might have a problem?

I can’t even imagine what America will be like in 40 years. I would guess that folks will literally be able to do whatever they want in private AND in public. We will look back and 2011 and think how wonderful it was and so conservative....:) It will just get worse....yes being a bit pessimistic today for some reason.

So Breitbart is now on the transgender rights bandwagon as well as the regular fags bandwagon?

What’s wrong with Breitbart?

Transgender people are seriously freaking mentally ill. It’s that simple. ANd their mental illness takes the form of vile perversion and mutliation.

I can’t read the article because it will make me sick. I’ll do it tomorrow and ping it ou.

I haven’t seen statistics for the USA (I bet PC bureaucrats are hiding them) but in Canada, gay and transgender men have a life-span 21 years below that of the average Canadian. This is due to disease, drugs, mental illness, suicide, and even gay-on-gay violence.

The problem begins and ends with them.

i read a while ago that the new R controlled House was going to do something to stop fags in the military. If you hear anyting, let me know.

At this point, I’ll be cheered only if (self deleted phrase that goes against the rules on FR).

No. I got this from his AP news wire.

He has no control over what AP puts out as new news.

My daughter, whom we adopted as a baby, is “transgendered”. There’s been no abuse, nothing to make her feel as if she’s a boy rather than a girl. She’s been this way from toddlerhood, insisting on buying and wearing boys clothing. Never did wear off or go away. She hasn’t had an operation like Chastity Bono or anything, but I can tell you from experience, it isn’t her fault, and it is a sad sad condition to have. It is heartbreaking, for them and for others.

Oh, that’s good. But Breitbart has surrendered to the “let’s all get on the GOProud fag agenda” bandwagon.

She needs therapy. There are therapists that can help her.

Transgendereds in the armed forces? They made a documentary about this already.

Of course the "transgendered" have mental problems (what could have been the first clue?), reaffirming the root of their psychosis hardly seems like the best remedy.

Here will go with another group of deviants whining about not being accepted as normal.

It’s about as fundamental as you can get, right ? Accepting the reality of one’s identity. When we’re children we “pretend” to be things, but part of maturing is understanding and accepting the difference between what we feel like we want to be versus what we actually are. If one believes one is an animal, say a chicken, for real, one would be judged to not be of sound mind. But if one believes they are human, but the opposite gender of what one actually is, today’s society views that as some time of minority group that needs to be accepted as normal. I say, who stands up for integrating all the chicken-people into society ? I mean, they should be able to go to a chicken farm and live with the other chickens, so they could live out the identity that they feel is true to their nature. And we need to send special teachers to the coop to put them through k-12 school, then college. And let them inter-marry with humans. And pay for their trans-chicken surgery to allow them to fit in with the other chickens as a true chicken-being. They need to run around naked, but have surgically-implanted feathers. And sit in the smelly coop, laying eggs through their altered body’s chicken-parts. And they can’t bath like a human, they just clean themselves with their beak after walking around in the coop all day. And the one day, we will honor them with a dinner at the White House, to celebrate the unique alternative lifestyle oneness of the chickpeople.

I made a joking post, but I don’t want to make light of your situation.

It is very difficult to raise children in today’s society, and I’m sure everyone wishes you the best in your efforts.

Continued prayer and effort at careful, clear reasoning is really all one can do; there are no guarantees in life that we will succeed, but we persevere, right ?

Breitbart is a news "aggregator" site. This is an AP story. AP sends a feed of stories out.
Its doubtful that a real live human had anything to do with this story appearing on the Breitbart website.

Sounds like the effects of every self-destructive, self-hating lifestyle known to man.

Yet the researchers plug their ears and blind their eyes to the obvious conclusion, i.e. Its a self-destructive mental disorder.

It’s hard not to laugh at a 6 foot, 200 lb. guy wearing a dress and speaking with a Bass voice and not chuckle at it’s appearance.

Same for Cher’s daughter trying to look like a fat guy with no beard.
