**VANITY** PLEASE RECOMMEND FUN .223 RIFLE **VANITY**

I've been intrigued by the Appleseed Project and I would like to take part in some of their shooting events, as well as other recreational shooting events. Most events require 400-500 rounds for weekend participation. The ammo for my current rifles would cost nearly a dollar per round. I've done some checking at Cheaper than Dirt and ammo for .223 rifles would be only $250 or so, a much more manageable cost.

I would like to get FReeper recommendations for fun-to-shoot rifles in the .223/5.56 that would be suitable for the Appleseed Project and practical for training purposes.

Also, does anyone know of a carbine conversion kit for a S&W Model 622 pistol, .22LR? Something similar to this Beretta?

I'm pretty sure they'll produce it, but it may be a while until it shows up.

I know that they have a hard time meeting demand with some of their firearms like the SUB-2000 series.

I'm eager to see the reviews of their shotgun, and also would like to see a lower MSRP on the thing.

For now, I will just have to be content with my Mossberg 590a1.

;-)

Ohio Ordenance Works were the only ones building VZ58 receivers and had rifles priced at $1200 with (IIRC) the receivers at $550 with 922 parts included.

Century got into the picture and the Chech’s started production of a single stack that was converted here with the 922 parts added. The bottom droped out of the price structure.

OOW still makes a nice rifle at just under $1k.

I think I will order one of the $379 czech jobs.
Though I would prefer the plum synthetic stocks.

Sorry you got upside down on those kits.

I have always liked the czech engineering.

I’m not really upside down in the kits... I never bought the receivers so when I get the rifle(s) I have a full set of spare parts. I only have like $79 each in the kits. I also got the leather pouch with four mags, two sets for (IIRC) $40 each.

Why .223? Go get yourself a $100~$150 Mosin Nagant at Cabela's, and order the bulk ammo via Sportsmansguide.com (the surplus 7.62 x 54R is cheaper than .223 yet packs the punch of a .308).

You'll own some history, it's a great hunting rifle, comes with some nifty "extras," and you'll have a good hurt in your shoulder on Monday.

LOL! I already have my hunting rifles and I don’t need anything as robust as a .308, yet.
