NEWPORT, Ore. New Tsunami warnings from Japan on Thursday again reminded West coast residents that it was just a month ago when the devastating earthquake triggered massive waves here; while Tsunami experts at nearby Oregon State University point to the Cascadia Subduction Zone as a clear and present threat in the wake of these new aftershocks that are rattling Japan again and causing new Tsunami warnings in the Pacific.
According to recent reports by scientists at nearby Oregon State University in Corvallis, this Cascadia Subduction zone has just experienced a cluster of four massive earthquakes during the past 1,600 years, and if historical trends continue, this cluster could be over and the zone may already have entered a new period of concern. "The Cascadia Subduction Zone has the longest recorded data about its earthquakes of any major fault in the world," said Chris Goldfinger, an associate professor of marine geology at Oregon State Universityand one of the leading world experts on this fault zone.

Sumatra, Chile, New Zealand, Japan and up next?
Seattle with at least an 8.8 to 9.2 magnitude quake.
No, I expect you to die!
LLS
“WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!! “
Eventually.
Juan de Fucu Subduction zone off WA & Ore is the only significant fault line on the Ring of Fire NOT to have experienced a major earthquake in the last 50 years. The last one around a 9.1 happened in 1700. It is not if, but when for the next one.

I thought the Cascadia Seduction Zone in Georgetown...
;-)
Anthropogenic Global Warming to blame. Universal Carbon Taxes the solution. Women and minorities hardest hit.
Just sayin’.... could be the Northwest shakes before Cali does....
Al Gore has that new home on the precipice of the ocean where it might be swallowed up one day (per his own prediction). Am sure the gullible feel sorry for him and his family. The gullible just might want to send their donations to him directly!
I hope it holds off for a couple more hours. We’re going riding on the beach as soon as I get done here. Both my horse & I are lame and incapable of getting back to the trailer in the 15-20 minutes it takes for the tsunami to hit. Well, horse might make it, he’ll dump me as soon as the shaking starts.
I think that’s called “Horse Sense”! LOL
Crank it up!!
I love the screaming at the beginning, LOL.
Interesting article. Like the land in Japan which sunk and remains under sea, the Oregon and Washington coast will also sink, putting some coastline under water. The area we ride horses on the beach has some big stumps where there used to be a forest. The stumps are under water at high tide.
I learned about this from a special program NOVA just did about the Japan earthquake and tsunami.... maybe you can find it at the PBS website. I know they have shakers up in Washington sometimes, but are not as well known as our EQs here in California. It feels like we are SOOOOOO overdue.
