Why is he doing this? Is his campaign really that incompetent?
Having successfully shut down scrutiny in the primaries (but not the general election) of his Bain record with unfounded cries of Newts attacking capitalism and free markets, Romney is back to what started it all, the demand that Newt give back the money he lawfully earned through consulting with Freddie Mac.
As Morrissey notes, Newts campaign already has diffused another line of Romneys Freddie Mac attack, quickly asking for the release of his consulting contract before the Florida primary.
Romney will go on the offensive at tonights debate demanding that more Freddie consulting records be released. Which will give Newt the perfect opportunity to point out Romneys cleansing of his gubernatorial records:
"People who destroy hard drives shouldnt demand records from others."
Of course, theres another response Newt could give. Its been used before, but it fits.
Reagan..."There you go again."

Besides all my active HDs are in quick remove trays.
Meanwhile, Romney smiles like someone just gave him a frontal lobotomy.
Demil by writing over at least 7 times.
My empty space get written over 7 times for general space saving and prepping for defrag.
Erase 32 times for totally cleaning the drive.
If I am letting an old computer go to the bone pile I erase 32 times and take a sander to each side of each disk and bang em hard with a hammer then I toss the leftover pieces in various garbage bins, nowhere near my home or business.
Ouch! Now that’s gonna leave a blister.
It’s a dumb and counterproductive angle from both sides. There’s nothing wrong with what Newt did, and there’s nothing wrong with what Mitt did. Destroying hard drives is a standard procedure in data protection.
Can’t be too safe. What about some time in a degaussing field of varying strength?
For some reason portions of your comment reminded me of a certain legendary FReeper...
Politics isn't sunshine, rainbows and lollypops. Candidates who act like Barney the Purple Dinosaur rarely win.
How am I supposed to vote for a Republican that runs against free markets and capitalism? The anti-Bain approach was dumb. I still like Newt, but it was a stupid move and I hope he recovers from it in time.
You seem primarily focused on finding negatives about Newt rather than Mitt.
Curiouser and Curiouser...
Tried it years ago and then I found more satisfaction in finishing the job with some sweat.
LOL
I didn’t see Gingrich’s attack on Bain as an attack on Capitalism per se. I think that was just Romney’s spin. I think its arguable that some activities of private citizens in free markets are actually not beneficial. For example, we don’t treat fraud kindly, even though it clearly benefits the individual fraudster. I understand that using vast amounts of capital to identify and chop shop vulnerable firms is a kind of garbage collection, but it is fundamentally parasitic in nature, and it can be done very poorly, as in inefficiently, and is not necessarily a credit to the practitioner. We no longer have debtors prisons. We don’t have absolutely free markets. We do try to do our capitalism with some sense of responsibility to each other. There is no real freedom in a moral void. That’s what I think Gingrich was going after. IMHO.
I’m not the enemy, sport. Do you really ~need~ a list of what’s wrong with Mitt? No argument there. I am, however not getting emotionally strung out on anybody yet. In my state, we don’t get to choose the candidate. We get told by the rest of the country who our candidate is. So I just don’t have a dog in the fight yet.
I never claimed to like it, but short of a brokered convention (we can pray) I think the most likely primary winner will be Mitt. That’s just the way it looks. We’ll see... But them’ll be some strange days around here. I don’t think this site will survive as a pro-Obama site, but that’s what it’ll be.
NOT my fault, I swear it.
