I was gonna post a news article,
but I guess I'll hijack this vanity instead...
Trayvon Martin's Death Being Reinvestigated
The investigation into the killing of Trayvon Martin is essentially starting from scratch,
with the new special prosecutor and a team of investigators quietly re-interviewing witnesses
and examining evidence related to the unarmed teen's shooting death...

I am puzzled at how the liberals and the MSM decide to push a certain story.

This shooting happened a month ago. Police did an investigation, filed their normal reports, etc. All of this was done out of the glare of the national spotlight. The conclusion was that this was a case of self-defense. And all of that was done out of the national spotlight.

How did this story become such a huge national story? Why did the media decide to push this story? Did it fit their preconceived notions that America is racist, a black kid was shot by someone who wasn’t black, not gang violence, so it fits a narrative?

Did the media guys, for all of their alleged intelligence, think that someone named Zimmerman was a white man? And that this was a good story of white on black racist crime?

I just wonder how this incident happened, and for weeks afterwards it was not a national story. Then, somehow, one day, it’s the latest liberal cause celebre, and it’s all over the news.

Many young blacks have been killed in gang violence since the media decided to push this story, but there is little concern about those black victims. Instead, the shooting of Trayvon is the only thing that matters.

EXCERPTS

In Trayvon’s case, (Parks & Crump) alerted the news media more quickly. They phoned the Rev. Al Sharpton almost instantly, and organized marches with local civil rights activists. They also started pressing for federal involvement and alleging a cover-up from the get-go.

(snip)

“In court, you have the jury,” Crump says. “Our job is to get the case to a jury. We need to fight first in the court of public opinion. The jury is the American people.”

Someone Must Be Punished for Killing Trayvon Martin, Says Mom Sybrina Fulton
by Allison Samuels Mar 22, 2012 2:04 AM EDT

EXCERPT

The now controversial killing of Trayvon garnered virtually no mainstream media attention in the days immediately after he was fatally shot, but that all changed when the teenager’s parents decided to hire civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump and his law firm to get more answers on exactly how and why their son died.

“They called me the same day they were notified that their son was dead,’’ Crump told The Daily Beast. “When I heard their unarmed teenage son was shot to death, I just knew there’d be an arrest shortly. There wasn’t an arrest 48 hours later, and then I knew we’d have to take this outside of Sanford if we wanted justice.’’

Trayvon’s parents were told by the Sanford police that Zimmerman wasn’t arrested in their son’s death because the facts of the case did not dispute his claim of self-defense.

For Crump, taking the Trayvon Martin story outside of Sanford simply entailed dialing up a few well-placed friends such as the Rev. Al Sharpton. Crump worked closely with the civil rights leader in 2006 on another racially charged case—the controversial death of a 14-year-old, African-American inmate of a Florida boot camp.

“I had to call people like Sharpton and a few other black civil rights leaders and the black media to tell them about this story,’’ said Crump. “I had to get them to understand what happened to this young man and what hadn’t happened in his case so they could spread the word.’’

Historically, cases of murder and violence against blacks in the United States rarely have been given the same amount of attention as cases in which the victims of crime are white—and often go unnoticed and unprosecuted.

Just days after hearing the details of Trayvon’s death, Sharpton arranged to have Crump and the teenager’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin, on his syndicated radio show and his popular MSNBC show, Politics Nation, to tell their story.

(snip)

In the wake of non-stop media attention from the likes of Sharpton and CNN’s Don Lemon concerning the Trayvon Martin case, black media blogs such as MediaTakeOut.com and Huffington Post Black Voices also began publishing accounts and editorials about the Florida case—daily. Almost instantly, readers of all races, ages, and backgrounds began tweeting and posting on Facebook their outrage over how the police have handled the case, and the lack of an arrest in the shooting. To date, almost 1 million people have signed a Change.Org petition to have Zimmerman arrested. In response to the widespread outrage, the Justice Department has opened an investigation into the shooting.

How did this story become such a huge national story? Why did the media decide to push this story?

There's a fair amount of speculation on my part, based on bits and pieces I picked up in here and there in news stories, but I think it happened something like this:

Trayvon's mother went to the press in some way, told her story about how young Trayvon was sitting on his porch, eating his skittles, when a white man came and shot him. Little Trayvon was begging for help, but the white man just shot him in the back of the head in cold blood.

Not only did the killer not have a trial, the police just let him go without even being charged with any crime. Undoubtedly because the killer was white and the victim was black.

If the mother's story was accurate in it's details, it would have and SHOULD have been something the press should expose. The story fit the reporter's preconceptions about the racist society and the evil of guns and stand your ground laws, so he ran with the story Trayvon's mother told.

You mean you haven't heard of Soros-funded Media Matters and its connection to the Obama administration? They (and others) actively look for stories like this to further the WH agenda and get the word out to their friends in the media.

If the story also serves as a distraction from the really important matters (SCOTUS hearings on Obamacare), it's a serendipitous bonus! That's what I call TSTT: "The Shiny Thing Technique". =o)

I freely (but not proudly) admit I bought into the angelic Trayvon narrative in the beginning. In hindsight maybe it is because my sons have had friends (black, white, Hispanic) throughout the years who were no more ghetto thugs than my own sons. They all wore hoodies.

Common sense prevailed. This has nothing to do with anything other than Trayvon, Zimmerman and the facts of that evening.

The BIG story is more about what I label a “Plantation Call” by the Rev Al. There was a problem in that the left feared a loss of support among those voters they have come to depend on throughout the years because of the economy.

What better way to unite than to exploit a situation and fight a common enemy, the white man.

George Zimmerman. Mmmm...perhaps the Rev Al did a little racial profiling of his own based on nothing more than a name?

I have pulled back from the events of that evening, trying to think of how to avoid falling into the trap of choosing sides.

If his last name would have been Hernandez, Ruiz, or Gonzales, we would not have heard a word about this case. But Zimmerman is just too "white" for race baiters to pass up even though he is 50% Hispanic.

Sharpton and Jackson saw the name Zimmerman and they thought they had a Jew, I mean “zionist” or as Sharpton calls them “diamond merchants” and “interlopers” from “Hymie Town” as Jesse Jackson call it..

Being that they’re reverends and all, where do they hold services?

Too bad for George that he isn’t black, and then no one would have cared. Trayvon’s death would be chalked up to more black on black violence, the daily routine of the gangsta’ culture. We wouldn’t have Obama’s buddies posting a death bounty, or idiots getting George’s address wrong. We would probably get a rap song about how tough George is.
