Anyone watching the Closing Ceremonies???

Is anyone watching the Closing Ceremonies? So far, I've seen a quite eclectic selection.

I think so far, the highlight has been when Eric Idle, one of the Pythons, came out and sang "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life".

At least with Rio, we’ll be able to see a lot more stuff live in Prime Time, they are one hour ahead of the Eastern Time Zone.

The Rio segment was enjoyable for 2 reasons:

1. To me, Pele’ is a mythic Legend, so I was amazed by that.

2. And if ever there is a day when I am unwilling to see Alessandra Ambrosio, well, it won’t be me who will have changed.

He sure has; but I did think he played good and looked healthier than I have seen him for time.

Yep and it will be closer to home.

For the closing ceromonies, I was surprised that they did not touch upon the legendary Rolling Stones, a band from London itself. I think they are on tour again?

The Moody Blues either. Or Adele, a much newer act, either. Maybe because of her recent health issues and if my memory is correct, she is pregnant?

A lot of the questions just show I struggle to keep up with the music.

Or even Moody Blues. They are legendary.

I so want them to have one segment where all at once one of those Brit police boxes appear, and out comes Dr. Who (perferably David Tennant)who looks at his watch and says something like, “Sorry wrong century.”, and then the box disappears in a puff of smoke.

[Looks at the Iranian team] Oooo, there's still an Iran? Bloody hell, I was aiming for 2016 at Rio.

They missed such a cool opportunity. Image the possibilities.

“Or even the Moody Blues...”

I forgot about them.

Yes, I agree! It would have been cool to see them.

This is one reason I don’t want the Olympics here in the US. The opening and closing ceremonies probably be just a bunch of gangsta rappers and American Idol rejects.

IIRC, there was an opening ceremonies thread on FR, where you can find the comments. When they rolled out the beds for a segment on their national health care system I turned the TV off.

There’s so much more about GB than that poppycock.

I thank the Lord that Obama was sent packing when he tried to get Chicago as an Olympic city.

Would have been the worst Olympics ever.

I don’t think America deserves the Olympics, not now anyway.

Now I am willing to bet Rio will be targeted by the libs for being against this and that agenda The slums will be a 24/7 fluff story should NBC get their hands on the broadcasting rights.

I for one will be looking into whatever it takes to get non US broadcasting, even if I have to buy a DVD of the Olypics from Rio, I’ll try to get a satellite dish package so as to give NBC the bird.

NBC ruined it, I just cannot stress how much their interaction, storytelling and coverage stank. The constant editing for commercials and political ads was obvious but then I saw only a 300x fast forward blur of them.

Not if Socialists and blacks are running it. That would be racist.

What they will target is Sochi for the next winter games, since the Russians don't play nice with gays, expect that to come under heavy attack.

“The opening and closing ceremonies would probably be just a bunch of gangsta rappers and American Idol rejects.”

Excellent point. Those ceremonies would be painful to watch.

Regarding the closing ceremonies on Sunday, what bothers me most are the what if’s. By that, I’m referring to the artists who weren’t on stage.

Maybe some of the them were asked and said “Gee, this looks like a painful event. I’ll have to take a pass on performing”.

But think about it...Bryan Ferry (with or without Roxy Music), Rod Stewart, Phil Collins (either alone or with Genesis), the Moody Blues, Van Morrison (he’s Northern Irish), Leona Lewis, Tom Jones (he’s Welsh), Spandau Ballet...Those are all artists I’d have liked to have seen.

Even though he’s a perv, it was OK to see George Michael featured as well as Madness and the Pet Shop Boys. I remember their music quite well in my younger years. The brief tribute to David Bowie wasn’t too bad either.

Maybe middle age is striking me in a bad way - but I found the closing ceremonies to be kinda chaotic and frenetic.

I guess I was hoping against hope that maybe Andy Partridge could have gotten over his stage fright and done some XTC numbers.
