Annie Oakley, Annie Oakley (1860 1926) was an American sharpshooter and exhibition shooter. Oakleys amazing talent and timely rise to fame led to a starring role in Buffalo Bills Wild West show, which propelled her to become the first American female superstar. Oakleys perhaps most famous trick is being able to repeatedly split a playing card, edge-on, and put several more holes in it before it could touch the ground, using a .22 caliber rifle, at 90 feet.

Annie Oakley was an amazing woman in many ways- including personally teaching thousands of other women to shoot. I suggested to my 11 year old daughter she dress up as Annie for Halloween next year, and she was thrilled with the idea :)

Yes, she was born in Greenville, OH, Darke County. They have a festival every year in her honor and there is also a museum there. I used to live in Darke County.

I used to call my daughter Annie Oakley, when she was around 12 or so, because she was such a dead shot with a BB gun and a .22 rifle.
