The Constitution authorizes Congress to "grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water". That means they expected individuals to have enough firepower to take on foreign ships and armies (as shown by the "captures on land and water"). You aren't going to do that with a single musket, so at least some people had to own the 18th century weapon of mass destruction, the cannon (and probably more than one).

I’m not sure I accept the notion that muskets aren’t ‘high powered’....

Maybe Mr. Morgan will participate in a demonstration.

“I’m not sure I accept the notion that muskets aren’t ‘high powered’....”

Muskets were generally .54 to .766 caliber and were definitely difficult to survive if you were hit.

The 2nd Amendment was written for all arms.

The First Amendment was written with newspapers in mind. Get off the TV and interwebs, moron.

right next to the word "muskets."
I swear I read it right next to the words "separation of church and state."
Oh, wait ...

The average hunting rifle has far more lethality than most “assault rifle” cartridges yet no one is clamoring to ban them. For that matter, so do most moving cars. Nobody, with the possible exception of Moonbat Gore, is suggesting that we ban those either. I am so tired of ill-informed, hoplophobe liberals trying to ban guns because they fear the peasants might be able to protect themselves.
