Calm, unbiased and completely neutral researchers say:

“We’re all gonna die!!! The sky is falling!!! GM...The Great and Horrible GM is gonna kill us all!!!”

“Could”, “might”, “possibly”...

Not one ounce of verification of random phenotypical derivation on Gene VI, as they call it... Nor have they actually observed said changes producing toxicity...

But hey... Don’t let that get in the way of a good scare for the ignorant.

Biotech supporters argue there is no evidence that GM foods are harmful

Since food suppliers are forbidden from labeling GM foods, there will be no evidence. Duh . . . .

GM crops such as corn and soya, which are being grown around the world for both human and farm animal consumption, include the gene.

OMG! So what?

They don’t mention that non-GM crops, such as grains carry a “lethal toxin” called aflatoxin. Usually it is in low enough levels that there are no serious problems but occasionally when conditions are right things get nasty, or in places where grain storage is not optimal such as in Africa. Old pancake mix can really make you sick, for example, it’s best to keep it in the fridge and use it quickly. Aflatoxin’s been a problem for centuries, and is a carcinogen that Saddam Hussein was working on, though it does not kill quickly enough to be an effective weapon in war. It is a pretty good weapon for revenge or blackmail though. Occasional outbreaks of aflatoxin in pet food, especially ground baby bird food, occur, and isn’t discovered until all your baby parrots sicken and die for no apparent reason.

I know it is not a scientific argument.

But there has to be a reason why, if you look up GMO Opposition, virtually every website you hit is a left-wing organization, or an environmental whacko organization.

Yes, I suppose they could all be right this time. But it certainly makes it hard to call GMO a left-wing conspiracy.
