Possible that this has been on here before but it's a nice remeberance of what once was despite the enormous costs. It paid my bills for 36+ years so thanks to all you taxpayers. Hell, I even paid myself some of it.
TOPICS: Science; Society
KEYWORDS: nasa; shuttle; spaceexploration; spaceshuttle; usexceptionalism
Days gone by never to be seen again. Maybe never have manned capability again at the pace things are going.

NASA’s new mission is to build bridges to the moslem world.I think that effort is succeeding as evidenced by moslems’ ability to essentially put 100+ innocent Bostonians into near earth orbit a couple of weeks ago.

My uncle worked on the electronics of the Space Shuttle along with Apollo, Gemini and Mercury too. Before that he worked on the Titan IA and II.

Museum pieces now. See, kids, we once reached to the stars.
There is a generation, well, almost two, that are adults now but they have never seen a man walk on the Moon live on TV. It is just old films and history books to them. To have seen man walk on the Moon, you have to be at least 40 or just past it. Also, do not forget that in our written history, only 12 men walked on the Moon and if you count those who stayed in orbit above the Moon, only 24 people have left the Earth's orbit and flew above the Moon. That is a true minority. Out of the 12 that walked on the moon, only 8 are still alive, in their late 70's and early 80's. The same is true if you go by the 24 men, only 18 are alive now. It's like we reached out to the stars and tehen pulled our arms back.
Ping to RCA2000, since this is a space topic.

To touch the face of God.
Some touched and saw His cheek. Some touched and fell. But God saw all and held them in His embrace.
The heroes of generations will be written on the walls of the steps of humanity.
It wan't Hober Mallow, it was so many of much stronger mettle.

NASA evoked too much national patriotism, so the globalists and their puppet 0bama had to put a stop to that.

My dad built the big valves between the shuttle and the main fuel tank. Two part valve, half a dozen left halves, lots of right halves...

While in no way denigrating the technical achievements of the shuttle, basically, it was a bad idea in the first place..the result of a complete lack of vision both at NASA and in the WH. After an incredibly successful manned lunar program, they actually cancelled the final scheduled missions (for which the rockets had already been built) and decided that instead of either establishing a base on the moon, or aiming for the planets, we were instead going to spend gazillions to just put man in orbit around the planet. Yes, the shuttles were reusable, but to what end..
