The Purge is an attack on the Tea Party and NRA.

For those who are Star Trek fans you may recognize the plot from The Return of the Archons. In this episode the people run amock for a period of time as a "cleansing" of society. Sounds like hollywierd has copied from ST.

Yep. As soon as I saw half of the trailer, I knew that it was Return of the Archons (with political correctness oozing from every pore).
IMDB reviews on this flick are hilarious.
I saw a review on Huffington Post and the review made it out to be Tea Party like after “THe New Founding Fathers” takeover of congress in 2014 and one of the comments said the masks of one of the villians looked like Mitt Romneys son
If it sounds like any kind of movement I would say OWS
So very typical, and a shame, as I did find the plot of this movie very interesting.
The director talked about how, in other countries, the news is devoid of the violence we see in the US. Hmmm, kind of sounds ridiculous when you think about the man who had his head hacked off on the streets of London. Or how about the Dutch filmmaker who was stabbed while riding his bike? Terror tots looting stores across England, or Islamic welfare seekers burning cars in Sweden? No, not violent at all.
The wealthy are immune to violence? I guess someone forgot to inform Sharon Tate. John Lennon must have missed the memo. The who’s who of rappers?
If anything, and immediately disregarding the ridiculous idea of the NRA running the government, this movie should encourage people to arm themselves. Home invasions happen to people of every stripe, and there are some really sadistic psychopaths out there. The Keddie Cabin Murders come to mind.
I also find it ironic that the police cannot respond to the call for help, yet this is an attack on the 2nd Amendment? That is a REALITY for many people across the country who can’t afford to wait till Tuesday for Barney Fife to show up. Now, what’s the bet this director has a gun himself?
The theme will back-fire on the film makers as most of the U.S. will view those out committing the wanton crimes as the (surprise!) criminal element of the U.S. and those who hunker down in their houses as the law-abiding element of the U.S.
(Most) People instinctively know that owning a gun does not turn you into a wannabe criminal.
Come to think of it, Obama does kinda look like Landru.
I’ll pass. There is enough stupidity going on right now without using it for recreation.
I think that a Purge Night would purge a lot of scum bags, as most citizens would load up and band together.
Even after all the lawlessness, the rapes, the violence and property destruction, and the assaults - even on their own, the leftists can’t admit that the ows’rs are the scumbags not the TEA partiers.
It would be laughable if not so pathetic.
You are spot-on. Going to the festival?
From the trailer, it has a ridiculous premise.
It may make for an interesting story, but it is too far-fetched.
Same with The Hunger Games.
If there were to be a purge there would be a lot of dead 47%’ers the day after....
They would not be killed in their own homes, instead they would be killed trying to break in and steal things from conservatives and trying to kill conservatives....
Of course the film is hollywood fantasy land ideals so the end result is 180 degrees from what it would actually be..
This has zero appeal to me. Before getting married and having a family, perhaps. But since then, I just think of protection. And that is at odds with my core being now. No thanks.
Didn't cair for it! Not enough sexy womens, and the writers are all commies!
Regards,
it is the absolute most stupid, idiotic premise for a movie i have heard in recent memory.
"You are not of the Body"
“...The Return of the Archons...”
I don’t recall that episode. Refresh my memory.
Kirk and company encounter a planet run by a computer, aka Landru, who has complete control over the population of the planet.
The only time the people are “allowed” to do what they want is a time known as Festival. If I remember, it runs for about 12 hours and the people go slap crazy....much destruction, sexual aggressiveness, mayhem (or chicago on a saturday night). When festival is over, the people go back to being controlled by Landru.
The premise of the Purge reminded me of this episode.
