A kilo is a kilo is a kilo!

A world first: The "Samoa Air System" of pay by weight 'Pay only for what you weigh'!

Welcome to the fairest system for payment of carriage of anything by air. The world is now aware that charging by weight is the fairest way of paying for carriage. Whether its people, baggage, freight or anything which we might want tot take or consign by air.

At Samoa Air we will do our best to ensure that every passenger is afforded the same level of comfort and travel throughout their flying experience. We want to bring back Air Travel as an enjoyable experience, where you, and your baggage will always travel together. No more excess fee's are charged and no more discrimination, because as we know: A kilo is a kilo is a kilo!

TOPICS: Travel
KEYWORDS: fares; weight
There have been a number of discussions of this concept in Free Republic, so this should be of interest.

This may have something to do with airline policy. "The mean BMI for women 20 and older in Samoa in 2009 was 33.8, and for men, 30.5, after standardizing for the country's age distribution—each ranking fourth-highest in the world."

In other news, Samoa Air has been chosen as the preferred airline for the International Fall Fashion Extraganza in Milan, Italy.

But the Sumo Wrestlers convention has picked a different airline.

Given the sizing of a lot of Samoans, I’m not sure this is going to save them money.

no fair to fatties! actually, some linear combination of head count and weight would probably be the fairest formula. what bargains could be had for a flight full of kids. and now i got to go.

Sorry - this actually doesn’t solve the issue. The airline is charging more for larger passengers - but they don’t appear to be providing more space for the larger body, unless they have radically changed the configuration of their aircraft.

All this does is make a dent in their fuel costs - it doesn’t address the passenger space allotment at all.

A plane full of Samoans .... it would look like the corral moments before release for the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, or the snack aisle at Walmart on “Free Twinkies Day”.

I agree being 6’4” and 240 pounds, if I am going to pay double a 120 pound woman, I expect twice the space. I am sick of being folded up like a lawn chair to fit into a seat for 2+ hours. I have no problem paying extra but I expect my cubic footage to increase proportional to the charge.

A plane full of Samoans would probably hit it's weight limit with half the seats filled. Everybody gets two seats.

Problem solved.

Nashville local TV just announced that the obesity epidemic in Tennessee is now so bad that there have been incidents of medevac helicopters being unable to take off with a morbidly obese patient on board.

BTW I flew helicopters; weight & balance calculation, estimating available power & takeoff angle all are affected by payload.

Tennessee may be the first state to use Chinook CH-47s for medical transportation. Patient slingload may be a possibility.

this isn’t gonna end up saving too many people too much. the costs will spread around until the airline is still making the same amount per flight, regardless of weight. if everybody lost weight, the cost per pound would have to rise.

This will make air travel unaffordable for the average Big Samoan.

I wonder if there’s an etymological relationship between “Sumo” and “Samoa.”
