Who could a liberal trust to hold them if he/she/it wanted to write them down as insurance? If they gave them to a patriotic conservative (assuming they know one who will talk to them) that conservative might just publish them now; ‘cause gosh! But if they gave them to another liberal; most liberals would fall on their sword to protect liberalism and Obama defines liberalism for the majority of them.
