Movie for a Sunday afternoon: "Comrade X"(1940)
You Tube ^ | 1940 | King Vidor

The Olympics in Russia provide the inspiration for today's feature, a hilarious satire of Soviet communism. Republican he-man movie legend Clark Gable plays an American foreign correspondent who outwits the U.S.S.R.'s news censorship rules while the gorgeous Hedy Lamarr plays the stone-faced street car conductor he gets involved with. Good fun and a comedy that deserves to be better known.

“A Lion In Winter” is on TCM in 21 minutes. That’s my movie for a Sunday afternoon.

This is one of my favorite films!

The scene where the lady’s bed is stolen at the hotel is classic.

My family JUST finished watching this movie on your recommendation. Thank you. There is no shortage of good anti-Nazi movies. Nice to see a decent anti-Soviet movie to fill out my children’s movie list.

You’re welcome!

Completely agree. I love the tank sequence where they end up invading Rumania.

P.S.

Another good one is Billy Wilder’s “One, Two, Three”(1961)
with James Cagney and Arlene Francis. I picked it for a mfasa title a while back-

Sadly, it’s not available to watch online at the moment but well worth a rental.

Neither Billy Wilder nor James Cagney work so well for Mrs. Sivana. Stalag 17 was a downer compared to “The Great Escape”.

Also, many of Wilder’s moies may be a bit on the risque side for our kids. We’ve also learned to stay away from Tony Curtis and Blake Edwards.

Well, there was a Shirley Temple marathon on the “Movie!” channel including some of her best like “Wee Willie Winkie” and “The Littlest Rebel” - I started to watch but the sweetness rolling from the screen was making my blood sugar level spike out of control, so I switched over to “Picnic” on TCM....
